Senior Systems Engineer, Vehicle Security

Job Summary

The Hardware Engineering team at Waymo is seeking a skilled and experienced individual to join our dynamic and innovative environment. This role involves developing and owning comprehensive vehicle system security requirements, working closely with OEMs and adjacent Systems Engineers to define and implement vehicle network and module security architectures.

Responsibilities

• Develop and own comprehensive vehicle system security requirements aligned with the high-level vehicle platform security strategy
• Work with OEMs and adjacent Systems Engineers to define and implement the vehicle network and module security architecture
• Create detailed security requirements for Waymo software interfaces to ensure secure communication with the vehicle platform
• Develop Verification and Validation (V&V) plans, execute tests, analyze results, and resolve defects related to platform security across various platforms and prototype phases
• Oversee the delivery timing of feature sets and software updates to the vehicle prototype fleet, and troubleshoot issues to ensure required capabilities

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Electrical Engineering, Communications Engineering, or similar
• A thorough understanding of vehicle communications and module security technology (Autosar SecOC, Security relevant services in ISO14229-1 UDS, HSMs, etc)
• A deep knowledge of vehicle communication networks and protocols (Physical and Application layer, e.g. CAN, FlexRay, LIN, Ethernet, DBCs, etc) and an understanding of the embedded systems that control via these networks
• The ability to create & negotiate targets and requirements with OEMs and Waymo adjacencies and create and execute effective DVPs as part of the role

Preferred

• Hands-on experience implementing and testing automotive security mechanisms
• Full lifecycle experience launching an automotive security critical system from definition to market
• At least 5 years experience in an automotive security (or similar industry) role delivering software and/or hardware
• Experience with CCC Digital Key implementation

Travel

6-8 times per year - international, typically 1 week at a time
