Senior Systems Engineer, Compute and Communications
About the role
Anduril's Compute and Comms (C&C) team is seeking a dynamic Sr. Systems Engineer who can break the mold and redefine how we develop mission-critical compute and communication systems operating at the tactical edge. We're looking beyond traditional defense industry approaches for innovative problem-solvers who can navigate complexity, drive technical excellence, and deliver exceptional products that our military and public sector customers depend on, including:
- Human- and vehicle-portable edge compute
- Advanced radio communication
- AI-enabled anti-drone systems
This role is perfect for systems thinkers who thrive at the intersection of multiple technical domains, embrace end-to-end ownership, possess a bias for action, and want to create groundbreaking solutions rather than follow conventional playbooks.
Responsibilities
Systems Architecture & Innovation
- Lead cross-functional integration between hardware, software, manufacturing, and programmatic teams, serving as the technical "glue" that transforms separate components into cohesive systems
- Identify critical user needs and translate them into technical solutions that impress customers and outperform legacy systems
- Reimagine system requirements through first-principles thinking, challenging traditional approaches to create more robust, adaptable solutions
- Create Systems Architecture diagrams that bridge mechanical, electrical, and software interfaces to align cross-domain teams on a single source of truth
Strategic Documentation & Digital Transformation
- Revolutionize how we document complex systems, leveraging modern systems engineering tools (Flow, Jama, MBSE, Digital Twins) to visualize architectures and model system performance
- Create technical narratives that communicate complex ideas clearly to stakeholders at all levels
- Build the digital backbone that enables rapid iteration and continuous improvement of our products
- Lead design reviews ensuring rigor from requirements definition through verification and validation
- Create user documentation that enables customers to autonomously operate Anduril products in the field without on-site support
Technical Leadership & Execution
- Operate as the driving force behind critical product decisions, balancing technical tradeoffs while maintaining system integrity
- Identify and eliminate bottlenecks in the development process, enabling the team to deliver breakthrough capabilities faster
- Travel to the field to both teach users how to operate the product and bring their feedback back to drive stronger technical designs
- Own the technical risk management process, ensuring systems meet rigorous military standards without sacrificing innovation
- Own verification and validation plans and execution
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Physics, or another technical discipline
- 8-10 years of systems engineering experience, preferably with exposure to rapid product development environments
- Track record of delivering complex technical systems across consumer electronics, enterprise compute, or military systems
- Experience leading cross-functional teams to deliver against aggressive schedules
- Demonstrated willingness to challenge the status quo and drive first-principles solutions
- Knowledge of DoD communications links and pathways
- Previous experience as a technical SME or IPT lead
- Experience bridging the gap between theoretical engineering and practical implementation
- Strong technical intuition paired with excellent communication skills
- Comfortable making decisions with imperfect information and adapting as new data emerges
- Experience with modern systems engineering tools and methodologies
- Military systems experience a plus, but innovative thinking and problem-solving ability matter more
