Senior Systems Engineer

About the role

Dark Wolf constructs and deploys data management and analytics solutions for the defense and intelligence communities. The Systems Engineer will design, develop, and implement software systems/services solutions based on requirements analysis; perform operational feasibility evaluations and recommend improvements; develop and maintain system and solution code, architecture, and security documentation.

Responsibilities

• Design, develop, and implement software systems and services based on requirements analysis.
• Perform operational feasibility evaluations and recommend improvements.
• Develop and maintain system and solution code, architecture, and security documentation.
• Originate JupyterHub notebooks for user consumption and facilitate correct SQL query usage to maximize system performance.
• Facilitate engineering discussions across multiple stakeholder teams to develop and execute implementation strategies.
• Apply agile software development and testing practices.
• Address data security, regulatory and compliance requirements, and develop security accreditation packages.
• Implement data security and governance using centralized controls such as LDAP, encryption, and auditing.
• Work with specialized data technologies (relational databases, NoSQL, object storage).
• Utilize IT Service Management practices and monitor SLA measurements.
• Manage container orchestration technologies (AWS ECS, AWS Fargate, Kubernetes, etc.).
• Operate large multi‑tenant cloud environments using Multi‑Account management, AWS Well‑Architected Best Practices, and AWS Organization Units/Service Control Policies.
• Maintain a total‑systems perspective, understanding relationships, dependencies, and requirements of hardware and software components.
• Consult with customers to determine present and future user needs and provide ongoing contact and traceability within program documents.

Required Qualifications

• 15+ years of work experience.
• Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline (e.g., Computer Science, Information Technology) or equivalent work experience.
• Designing cloud‑native architectures using services such as AWS, Google Cloud, IBM, or Oracle.
• Expertise in writing efficient and performant SQL queries.
• Experience designing and operating cloud‑native architectures and big data systems.
• Facilitating engineering discussions across multiple stakeholder teams.
• Agile software development and testing experience.
• Data security, regulatory and compliance knowledge, and security accreditation package development.
• Data security and governance using centralized controls (LDAP, encryption, auditing).
• Experience with relational databases, NoSQL databases, or object storage.
• Understanding of IT Service Management and common SLA measurements.
• Experience with container orchestration technologies (AWS ECS, AWS Fargate, Kubernetes, etc.).
• Managing large operational cloud environments across multiple tenants using Multi‑Account management, AWS Well‑Architected Best Practices, and AWS Organization Units/Service Control Policies.
• Comprehensive view of system and application relationships, dependencies, and hardware/software requirements.
• Customer consulting to determine current and future user needs.
• Providing frequent customer contact, traceability within program documents, and overall computing environment architecture.

Desired Qualifications

• AWS Certification(s) or other cloud technology certifications.
• Agile certification.
• Databases: PostgreSQL, MariaDB, ELK, MinIO, AWS S3, Neo4j, MongoDB, NoSQL.
• Languages: Python, SQL.
• Operating Systems: CentOS 7, Rocky Linux 8.
• Orchestration: Kubernetes, Docker, Docker‑Compose, Docker‑Swarm.
• Development Tools: GitLab, JupyterHub/Notebooks.
• Environments: Large collaboration, Agile development environments.
• Data types: Unstructured, structured, or semi‑structured data (CSV, JSON, JSONL, AVRO, Protocol Buffers, Parquet, etc.).

Clearance Requirement

TS/SCI with Full‑Scope Polygraph.

Salary

Target range: $210,000 – $235,000 (commensurate with specialized architecture expertise and technical skillset).
