Senior Systems Engineer

We operate a multi-state network of schools in under-resourced communities, offering quality Montessori-inspired preschool at no cost to families, and create tools, products, technology, and other solutions designed to reach young children and their caregivers well beyond our schools.

About the role

As a Senior Systems Engineer for Bezos Academy, you will help build and support the full technology stack for our growing network of tuition-free Montessori-inspired preschools. You will use your experience to design and implement cloud-based technology solutions that empower our organization to grow exponentially. You will integrate engineering best practices at every level, with a constant focus on data security, scalability, and supportability. Your passion for modern cloud infrastructure and scalable technology design will be critical to your success.

You will be part of a small but growing team that operates at all levels, from strategic design to operations support, laying the groundwork for the organization in technology, IT policy, and team culture. Your broad experience across multiple technologies and your appetite for learning and discovery will be foundational. A customer-centric approach is paramount, and you are motivated by our mission to expand access to high-quality preschool in underserved areas.

Location

Washington, Arizona, Florida, Kentucky, or Texas, within two hours’ drive to multiple Bezos Academy preschools (see our website for school locations). Seattle, WA is preferred. Relocation support is available for those willing to relocate to Seattle, WA.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement cloud-based technology solutions to support organizational growth.
• Integrate engineering best practices with a focus on data security, scalability, and supportability.
• Work across strategic design and operations support to establish technology, IT policy, and team culture.
• Deploy, administer, support, and migrate SaaS applications and platforms in an enterprise environment.
• Manage AI platforms and infrastructure (e.g., Claude CoWork, Copilot Studio, Azure Foundry).
• Travel up to 10% of the time to schools and other sites as needed.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
• Eight or more years of progressive experience in information technology, systems engineering, and/or IaaS/SaaS/PaaS-based infrastructure management.
• Expertise in AWS cloud infrastructure platforms, tools, and methodologies, including cloud networking (e.g., Cloudflare, Akamai).
• Working knowledge of information security best practices in a cloud environment.
• Ability to speak, read, and write English fluently.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience with infrastructure as code (IaC), CI/CD, and associated tooling (e.g., AWS CLI, CloudFormation, Terraform, Ansible, Salt, Puppet, Chef, Harness, CircleCI, Wiz).
• Experience administering observability platforms (e.g., Dynatrace, Datadog, Splunk).
• Experience using REST APIs and MCP servers.
• Experience with O365 and Azure AD administration.
• Experience with cloud-based automated system deployment, configuration management, MDM, and application deployment systems for Mac/Windows (Jamf/Intune).
• Experience leading technical projects, including researching solutions, planning, implementing, and training downstream teams.
• Knowledge of ITIL concepts such as change and incident management.

Pay

The full salary range for this position, across applicable United States geographies, is $98,000–$185,000 per year. The upper portion of the salary range is typically reserved for employees who have been in the role for multiple years and have demonstrated strong performance over time. Starting salary will vary by location, qualifications, and prior experience.
