Senior Systems Engineer, AM&D Services & Products
As a member of our Autonomous Mobility & Delivery (AM&D) group, you will shape the future of autonomous transportation at Uber by ensuring the safety of the technical frameworks that integrate with various autonomous vehicle (AV) partners and support Uber’s internal autonomous offerings. This role bridges cutting-edge robotics, safety-critical systems, and complex platform integration.
Responsibilities
- Develop and standardize partner-agnostic technical safety solutions and frameworks to expedite the go-to-market process for diverse AV providers and fleet operators on the Uber platform.
- Lead the elicitation and documentation of high-level and detailed system safety requirements for Uber’s proprietary autonomous technology and platform services.
- Design comprehensive Verification and Validation (V&V) strategies for internal Uber solutions and the interactions between Uber’s platform and external AV Partner systems to meet Uber’s safety bar.
- Conduct technical safety risk assessments to ensure all AV partner integrations meet Uber’s rigorous safety and performance standards.
- Act as a technical subject matter expert to influence long-term product roadmaps and strategic partnerships, ensuring technical feasibility and safety are prioritized.
- Evaluate and integrate AI/ML-driven approaches to enhance safety validation and risk identification while maintaining oversight, traceability, and compliance with safety standards.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Robotics, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Systems Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- 7+ years of experience in systems engineering, with a focus on complex hardware/software integrations.
- Proven track record in the Autonomous Vehicle industry, specifically within safety-critical systems.
- Experience with V&V methodologies (e.g., ISO 26262, SOTIF/ISO 21448).
Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced degree (Master’s or PhD) in a relevant engineering discipline.
- Experience defining cross-functional system architectures for large-scale distributed systems.
- Strong ability to communicate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders and executive leadership.
- Experience leveraging AI/ML tools in engineering workflows or safety analysis.
Pay
- New York City, NY: USD $171,000 – $190,000 per year.
- San Francisco, CA: USD $171,000 – $190,000 per year.
- Seattle, WA: USD $171,000 – $190,000 per year.
- Washington, DC: USD $171,000 – $190,000 per year.
For all US locations, you will be eligible to participate in Uber’s bonus program, receive equity awards, and other compensation. Full-time employees may participate in a 401(k) plan and are eligible for various benefits.
Schedule
Unless approved for full remote work, employees must spend at least 50% of their time in-office. Some roles, such as those at greenlight hubs, require full-time in-office presence.
