Senior Systems Administrator - Generalist
About the role
This position is part of HII’s Cyber and Intelligence division, supporting Enterprise-Level Security and Modernization efforts across IT infrastructure, cybersecurity, physical facilities, and personnel operations. The selected candidate will contribute to a high-impact government program focused on enhancing and securing mission-critical systems and environments. Due to the classified nature of the mission and the sensitivity of the operational environment, an active TS/SCI security clearance is required.
Responsibilities
- Administer, secure, and optimize both Windows and Linux environments supporting critical enterprise and mission workloads.
- Apply deep cross‑platform expertise to ensure systems are designed, configured, and maintained for reliability, performance, and compliance with organizational standards.
- Manage and troubleshoot complex issues across Windows Server and Red Hat/other Linux distributions; perform system installations, configurations, patching, and lifecycle maintenance.
- Ensure effective integration with networking, storage, virtualization, and security services.
- Develop and maintain automation to streamline routine operations; contribute to configuration baselines; support system hardening and vulnerability remediation.
- Participate in solution design activities such as documenting system architectures, evaluating platform improvements, and supporting deployments of new capabilities.
- Provide guidance to junior administrators; conduct system testing; validate operational readiness; ensure Windows and Linux systems remain stable, secure, and aligned with enterprise and mission requirements.
Requirements
- 7+ years of progressively responsible hands‑on systems administration of enterprise server operating systems (Windows Server, Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)) and server applications (e.g., Active Directory, Exchange, File Services, and SQL Server).
- 5+ years of experience administering a complete Microsoft AD domain and forest functional level, including domain controllers, global catalogs, LDAP/S, DNS, and DHCP.
- Experience applying and maintaining a standard security configuration based on SRGs and STIGs.
- Must meet DoD 8140/CSWF for 451‑Intermediate or be willing to obtain the appropriate credential within 6 months.
- TS/SCI clearance required with ability to obtain CI Poly.
Qualifications
System Administrator 3: 7 years relevant experience with Bachelor’s in related field; 4 years relevant experience with Master’s in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 10 years relevant experience.
System Administrator 4: 10 years relevant experience with Bachelor’s in related field; 8 years relevant experience with Master’s in related field; or High School Diploma or equivalent and 14 years relevant experience.
Preferred Requirements
- Experience leveraging scripting technologies (e.g., PowerShell, Batch, VBScript) and automated deployment tools and approaches (e.g., Ansible).
- Operating system formal training or vendor certifications from Microsoft or Red Hat.
- Formal training or vendor certifications for applications and technologies such as Citrix, Cisco, Splunk, SolarWinds, ServiceNow.
