About the role
The System Administrator manages and supports enterprise, regional, and local server environments hosting mission-critical applications and infrastructure services. This role is responsible for server administration, database administration, system deployment, performance optimization, security compliance, incident response, backup and disaster recovery, documentation, and cross-platform support across Windows, Linux, and UNIX-based environments.
Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage both virtual and physical servers for enterprise, regional, and local systems.
- Install, configure, document, maintain, and support server environments hosting mission-critical applications and infrastructure services.
- Provide cross-platform support for Windows, Linux, and UNIX-based server environments, with a focus on application and database performance, troubleshooting, and configurations.
- Install, configure, and maintain database systems, including Oracle and Solr.
- Perform database backups, restores, and performance tuning.
- Monitor database health and analyze performance metrics.
- Troubleshoot database issues to ensure smooth operations.
- Design, deploy, and maintain secure Windows servers in AWS C2S environments.
- Install and configure operating systems, database software, and application software across physical and virtual servers.
- Ensure system software is properly integrated and supports enterprise applications.
- Monitor and optimize system performance, including CPU, memory, disk usage, and response times for AWS C2S environments.
- Implement proactive measures to address potential performance bottlenecks.
- Troubleshoot and resolve system issues related to resource usage.
- Ensure systems and databases meet security standards and comply with relevant regulations.
- Implement and enforce security policies.
- Conduct regular vulnerability assessments.
- Manage security updates and patches for operating systems and database environments.
- Provide Tier 1 and Tier 2 support for troubleshooting, diagnosing, and resolving system and database issues.
- Respond to service outages, coordinate recovery efforts, and ensure timely resolution of problems.
- Assist in root cause analysis and implement corrective actions to prevent future issues.
- Plan and execute system downtime for scheduled maintenance, upgrades, and new releases.
- Install and test patches and updates for operating systems and database applications, including Oracle and Solr.
- Oversee and validate regular system and database backups.
- Ensure data integrity.
- Support disaster recovery plans by testing restoration procedures.
- Work with cross-functional teams and external partners to install and configure server systems.
- Support system integrations with other applications.
- Provide user support and consult with clients on complex technical problems.
- Maintain accurate documentation of system configurations, hardware, software, and processes.
- Provide clear reporting for troubleshooting, maintenance, and security audits.
- Train and mentor staff on server and database management best practices.
- Assist in developing training materials and ensuring operators are equipped to support the systems.
Qualifications
- BA/BS degree with 5+ years of relevant experience; or Master's degree with 3+ years of relevant experience.
- An additional 4 years of experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Proven experience in system administration, specifically with database management, Windows, Linux, and UNIX environments.
- Proven experience in AWS C2S, specifically with deployment, management, networking, and security of C2S instances.
- Experience managing both virtual and physical servers.
- Experience performing system monitoring, backup management, and performance optimization.
- Must have or be able to obtain CompTIA Security+ certification.

- Target Salary Range: $150,000 - $180,000
