Job Overview

The Senior Systems Administrator is responsible for managing and supporting physical and virtual server infrastructure.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the operations of the company's servers, including hardware, software, and virtualization technologies.
  • Work with Security Operations to secure & patch systems.
  • Conduct system analysis, configuration management, and develop improvements for system software performance, availability, and reliability.
  • Perform and test routine system backups and restores.
  • Anticipate, mitigate, identify, troubleshoot, and resolve hardware and software problems on servers.
  • Practice server asset management, including maintenance of server component inventory and related documentation and technical specifications.
  • Ensure the integrity and stability of the server environment through monitoring, analyzing, and participating in the planning and execution of disaster recovery procedures.
  • Manage and oversee the development, installation, and maintenance of server equipment and software.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, System Administration, or a closely related field, or equivalent experience required.
  • 5+ years of server system administration experience.
  • Experience with VMware or similar virtualization technologies.
  • Strong knowledge of systems and networking software, hardware, and networking protocols.
  • Experience with scripting and automation tools using powershell/automox.
  • A proven track record of developing and implementing IT strategies and plans.
  • Strong knowledge of implementing and effectively developing helpdesk and IT operations best practices, including expert knowledge of security, storage, data protection, and disaster recovery protocols.
  • Demonstrated leadership and personnel/project management skills.

Preferred Skills

  • Certifications in relevant fields, such as Microsoft Certified Systems Administrator (MCSA), Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer (MCSE), or Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA).
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to lead and motivate a team.
  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Technical Skill Proficiency:
    • VMware including Aria Operations
    • Cisco InterSight with UCS Server HW/SW
    • Pure Storage
    • Familiarity with Linux Operating Systems
    • Backup & Recovery with ExaGrid, Veeam, Veeam Data Cloud
    • Varonis
    • Proofpoint mail filtering
    • Azure/O365 with focus on Microsoft Exchange
    • Active Directory
    • Windows Server Versions 2003-2025
    • Dell Isilons
    • Infrastructure Management in Microsoft Azure
    • Powershell (Automox a plus)
    • SCCM experience
    • Azure/O365 with focus on Exchange Online and Exchange On-Premises
    • Varonis experience a plus
    • LogicMonitor experience a plus
    • ExaGrid experience a plus

Working Conditions

  • Primarily in an office environment in Marlborough, MA.
  • May require weekend and evening work.
  • Periodic visits to data centers or server rooms may be necessary.
  • Travel to other sites & locations (International & Domestic) may be necessary.
  • On-Call is Required.
