About the Role
To administer and provide central accountability for all Infrastructure server services, including activities associated with the function, organization, expansion, and technical support of existing and future Windows and Linux-based physical and virtual system configurations. This role supports systems software (e.g., operating systems, utilities, databases, cloud services, and middleware) necessary to deliver required services such as hosting, web, messaging, remote access, and security administration for Edfinancial Services, EdAmerica, and Medfinancial systems. Serves as an escalation point for System Administrators.
Responsibilities
- Exhibit a broad base of knowledge and skills in server infrastructure and operating systems, including Windows, Linux, Hyper-V, VMware, and Microsoft Azure (IaaS, SaaS, PaaS, and serverless services).
- Maintain the Active Directory environment, including Azure Active Directory, DHCP, GPO, DNS, and certificate management.
- Manage and monitor the M365 environment, including mail flow and collaboration products such as email, SharePoint, Dynamics, Teams, and licensing.
- Provide primary support for all physical and virtual servers.
- Maintain documentation on hardware and software.
- Monitor services for growth and usage trends; perform long-term capacity planning in conjunction with other team members to determine hardware and software purchases.
- Perform daily system monitoring, verifying the integrity and availability of all servers, applications, services, and key processes; review system and application logs; verify completion of scheduled jobs such as backups and sFTP processes.
- Recommend, install, test, and manage existing and new servers and software, including messaging, file servers, and databases, in accordance with standards and project/operational requirements.
- Provide technical assistance related to daily use; assist customers and desktop support staff in identifying and correcting errors.
- Diagnose system hardware, software, and operator problems; recommend or perform remedial action.
- Perform, oversee, monitor, and ensure data security, including regular backups, recovery, verification of security rights, and other steps to ensure data integrity.
- Collaborate with the Security team and other IT staff to implement, update, and test ongoing security improvements, including regular and timely OS patches, security patches, and application updates for all server infrastructure.
- Collaborate with other staff to create, test, and maintain up-to-date disaster recovery procedures for all critical services.
- Set up, install, test, and administer network printing functions.
- Assist the IT Infrastructure Manager and IT Systems Engineers in project definition, requirements documentation, and technical writing to support business growth.
- Monitor and enforce license agreements using appropriate tools for hardware and software resources.
- Monitor and create regular management reports tracking usage, performance, capacity, and growth trends related to company hardware and software.
- Collaborate with IT Network staff to install, configure, and ensure tight integration of web services, network links, hardware, and peripheral components into the company LAN and Azure environment.
- Stay current with new technologies being deployed at the company.
- Participate in off-hour support rotation.
- Train selected staff for coverage during absentee periods (e.g., vacation, seminars).
- Act as a liaison between company users and outside consultants/vendors.
- Perform other duties or special projects as required or assigned.
