The selection procedure evaluates applications based on training, experience, education, or certification using a continuous non‑competitive process. All applicants meeting the minimum qualifications will be placed on an eligible list. Veteran’s credit applicants are placed first, then by filing order. The eligible list may be established periodically and expires six months from its effective date. Applicants may apply only once during a four‑month period. Qualified candidates whose applications are received by Friday, August 14, 2026 will be placed on Test #01 established eligible list for this recruitment. The procedure may be revised based on the number of applications accepted; affected persons will be notified. Responsibilities
- Under direction, manages the work of a group of survey parties involved in a wide variety of survey work as defined in the Professional Land Surveyor's Act;
- directs a field survey party engaged in the more difficult work involved in land surveying including hydrographic, geodetic, boundary and construction surveying;
- plans procedures to improve plans;
- supervises the preparation of field layout data;
- directs the office staff in the preparation and/or checking of tract maps, parcel maps, and engineering improvement plans;
- monitors GPS real time networks;
- researches deeds, maps and records for the preparation of descriptions;
- reviews control maps and reports;
- performs complex survey computations and adjustments;
- instructs assigned personnel in safe work practices and ensures work areas comply with California Industrial Safety orders;
- may use computer aided design and other related surveying software;
- may review software and prepare procedures manual;
- may assume duties of division/section head in his/her absence;
- performs other related duties as required.
Requirements
- Option A: Current registration as a licensed Land Surveyor in the State of California (proof required).
- Option B: Current registration as a Civil Engineer authorized to practice land surveying in the State of California (proof required).
- Proof of required documents, such as degree or transcripts, must be uploaded to the online application at the time of filing.
- Any proofs submitted must contain either the applicant's name or other identifying characteristic on the form.
- Degrees must indicate the field of study and transcripts must indicate field of study and degree conferred date.
- Candidates who possess degrees from colleges or universities from outside the United States must attach proof of educational equivalence at the time of filing.
