Senior Superintendent -SD

About the Role

We are seeking a Senior Superintendent to oversee all field operations for various projects in San Diego. This position is responsible for coordinating subcontractors’ work, implementing the Safety/Zero Harm program, and ensuring projects are built on time, within budget, and according to company policies. The Senior Superintendent shares responsibility with the Project Manager for project budget development, preconstruction activities, and overall project success.

Responsibilities

• Safety: Zero Harm
  • Lead, oversee, and educate owners, subcontractors, team members, and the community on the Zero Harm safety culture.
  • Perform project safety walks and lead safety meetings, stand-downs, and toolbox talks.
  • Participate in incident investigations and ensure safety is incorporated into job planning and execution.
• Business Development
  • Develop and maintain relationships with clients, construction managers, architects, engineers, subcontractors, and key stakeholders.
  • Prepare operations-related components of proposals and presentations.
  • Lead construction delivery portions of presentations.
• Project Financial Responsibility
  • Ensure projects are delivered within budget.
  • Assist in project cost projection and financial reporting (monthly, quarterly, and yearly).
  • Review and approve monthly owner and subcontractor pay applications.
  • Communicate potential extra charges and track cost events.
  • Negotiate change orders.
• Preconstruction
  • Assist with estimates, constructability, and value engineering.
  • Create and update phase and site logistic plans.
  • Develop overall project schedules and assist in creating project budgets and staff planning.
  • Assist in scope writing and review of owner contracts.
  • Identify risks and participate in preconstruction meetings with owners and subcontractors.
• Planning & Scheduling
  • Develop the overall project plan, phasing, logistics milestones, and schedule.
  • Perform schedule updates (preferably with P6 experience), including monthly updates and 3-week look-aheads.
  • Lead pull planning sessions with subcontractors and stakeholders.
  • Track delays, develop time impact analyses, and navigate schedule roadblocks.
  • Experience with cost-loaded schedules is a plus.
• Project Administration, Operations, and Close-out
  • Co-lead Owner, Architect, Contractor (OAC) and key stakeholder meetings with the Project Manager.
  • Lead weekly subcontractor meetings.
  • Participate in monthly project reporting (MPR) preparation and discussions.
  • Communicate job needs and issues as necessary.
  • Lead the project quality control program, including preconstruction meetings and first work inspections.
  • Assist in project close-out, including subcontractor and vendor completion, punch list management, and obtaining certificates of occupancy and government approvals.
• Leadership and Team Development
  • Mentor, train, and develop field personnel, including assistant superintendents.
  • Provide timely feedback and ensure participation in the performance review process.
  • Foster a positive culture and build effective teams.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Ten or more years of commercial construction field experience on K-12 and/or Higher Education projects.
• Ten years of direct supervisory experience related to staff and subcontractor management.
• Proficiency using a PC and company communication tools, such as email, Procore, Bluebeam, Navisworks, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
• Experience creating and maintaining schedules in P6 is a plus.
• Ability to read plans and specifications.
• OSHA 30 certification.

Preferred Qualifications

• DSA/Public Works experience.
• DBIA and CCM professional certifications (preferred but not required).
• CIESC or QSP certifications (preferred but not required).

Pay

The base compensation range for this role in San Diego, CA is $160,000 to $200,000 annually. An employee's pay position within this range will be based on factors including relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, geographic location, performance, and business needs.
