About the Role

The General Superintendent leads and oversees all field operations on large-scale, complex construction projects. This role provides leadership to project teams, develops and executes construction strategies, manages site operations, and ensures projects are delivered safely, on schedule, within budget, and to established quality standards. The position requires a high degree of autonomy, decision-making, and collaboration with project stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Champion a strong safety culture and promote a zero-incident work environment through leadership, training, and accountability.
  • Oversee daily field operations, subcontractor performance, and overall project execution.
  • Lead and manage field staff, trade partners, suppliers, and project resources.
  • Develop and implement work plans, sequencing, logistics plans, and site utilization strategies.
  • Coordinate site access, security, material deliveries, equipment utilization, and workforce management.
  • Facilitate daily coordination meetings, trade partner meetings, progress meetings, and owner/architect/contractor meetings.
  • Partner with project management teams to develop, maintain, and adjust project schedules.
  • Monitor construction progress, productivity, budget impacts, and project milestones.
  • Communicate project updates and key information to owners, consultants, subcontractors, and regulatory agencies.
  • Maintain project documentation including reports, logs, inspections, schedules, and drawing updates.
  • Track production quantities, labor performance, and field costs.
  • Manage procurement coordination, long-lead material deliveries, and equipment needs.
  • Ensure compliance with project specifications, quality standards, and quality control procedures.
  • Lead punch list and project closeout activities, coordinating with all project stakeholders.
  • Participate in project planning, budgeting, staffing, buyout, and change management processes.
  • Support contract administration by understanding and enforcing contractual obligations.
  • Mentor, develop, and evaluate field personnel while fostering a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
  • Assist in workforce planning, succession planning, and talent development initiatives.

Leadership Responsibilities

  • Provide oversight for large, highly complex projects or multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Direct and mentor project superintendents and field leadership teams.
  • Drive operational excellence and implement strategic field initiatives.
  • Contribute to the development of training programs and operational best practices.
  • Communicate organizational objectives and expectations effectively across internal and external stakeholders.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, productivity, and operational performance.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of commercial construction experience.
  • 10+ years of field supervision experience managing large construction projects.
  • Experience overseeing aviation construction projects is required.
  • Experience implementing Lean construction methodologies is preferred.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field preferred. Equivalent construction industry experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.

Skills

  • Strong knowledge of commercial construction means and methods.
  • Advanced leadership, communication, and team-building skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
  • Experience with project scheduling software and construction management platforms.
  • Solid understanding of budgeting, cost control, labor productivity, and project financial performance.
  • Expertise in quality assurance, quality control, and safety management.
  • Strong knowledge of construction sequencing, logistics, site planning, and trade coordination.
  • Ability to identify project risks and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Proven ability to build relationships with owners, consultants, subcontractors, and project teams.
  • Experience applying Lean construction principles is preferred.
  • Knowledge of crane operations, rigging, site layout, and productivity management is advantageous.
