Responsibilities
- Assist in supervising the program and ensuring a safe, healthy, and constructive environment for all children involved in the program.
- Ensure that all areas of responsibilities of the job reflect the mission beliefs of the Old Colony Y.
- Uphold the employee code of conduct and ensure that all areas of the job responsibilities reflect the mission of the Old Colony Y, and the regulating agency.
- Display and encourage the character traits of caring, responsibility, honesty and respect in the fulfillment of all job duties.
- Understand and ensure Brockton Public Schools (BPS) policies and regulations as well as Old Colony Y policies (Child and Youth Care policy, Child Guidance Policy, Health Care Policy) are maintained at all times.
- Aid in planning, developing, and implementing the program curriculum in accordance with BPS regulations and Old Colony YMCA’s policies.
- Lead enrichment activities according to the quality requirements of the Old Colony Y and the prescribed curriculum that is planned each week.
- Collaborate with Teacher and the Para to ensure enrichment activities incorporate social emotional learning and are delivered with a trauma-informed lens.
- Assist with developing and writing curriculum including Y Chat, Asset Curriculum and CDLI Curriculum.
- Maintain proper behavior of children at all times with strict adherence to both the YMCA Child Guidance Policy, and the Child Care Policy.
- Act in a public relations capacity when communicating with parents, school personnel and colleagues.
- Help maintain attendance records and all necessary reports.
- Establish and maintain working relationships with school or other site-specific personnel.
Requirements
- Minimum of 18 years of age, and have at least 1 year of school age experience.
- Have a High School diploma or equivalent.
- CPR/AED and First Aid certifications required.
- Ability to create and sustain a culture of excellence and work and thrive as part of a cohesive team.
- Ability to lift/move heavy equipment and clean when necessary.
- Will sometimes work early morning, late nights and weekends.
- Strong oral communication skills required for occasional public speaking responsibilities.
- Ability to sit, stand, bend, lift up to 75lbs on occasion and 40lbs frequently (children) and move intermittently during work hours.
- Ability to thoroughly understand Y-USA's three focus areas: Youth Development, Healthy Living, and Social Responsibility; proven ability to identify and meet the needs of the health seeker.
