Senior Structural Engineer (Generation)
About the role
The candidate will be involved in projects with our Power & Energy Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges.
Responsibilities
- Supports technical staff, engineers, and project managers for due diligence, investigation, remediation, impact assessment, permitting, design, development, and construction of utility, industrial, and commercial scale projects.
- Generates accurate and concise reports and documentation regarding assigned material, installations, and construction specifications.
- Ensures responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.
- Executes structural engineering projects from concept through completion.
- Performs structural calculations and analysis using applicable building codes and standards.
- Develops specifications and design drawings for heavy industrial and power infrastructure projects.
- Reviews vendor submittals and responds to Requests for Information (RFIs).
- Coordinates technical issues with internal and external engineers, designers, drafters, and client representatives.
- Aids in proposal development and contributes to client relationship management.
- Affords support to project scheduling, sequencing, budgeting, and stakeholder coordination.
- Communicates directly with clients and multidisciplinary teams.
- Applies knowledge of seismic, wind, rotating equipment, and loading behavior in structural design.
- Utilizes engineering analysis tools such as STAAD Pro, RISA, SAP2000, L-Pile, and Mathcad.
- Supports production efforts using Revit, AutoCAD, or Navisworks.
- Exercises responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources, and conduct, and adheres to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
Requirements
- Has an ABET accredited bachelor's degree in civil engineering.
- Eight (8) + years of relevant structural design experience in heavy industry, electrical power infrastructure, or plant building design.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (P.E.).
- Familiarity with project management fundamentals including scheduling, budgeting, and coordination of multiple stakeholders.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
- Must successfully complete and pass WSP’s Motor Vehicle screening.
Preferred Qualifications
- Twelve (12) + years of structural design experience in energy or industrial environments.
- Prior project management experience with energy industry projects.
- Licensed Structural Engineer (SE).
- Experience using STAAD Pro, RISA, SAP2000, L-Pile, and Mathcad.
- Experience using Revit, AutoCAD, or Navisworks.
- Experience developing client relationships and managing projects from both technical and administrative perspectives.
