Senior Stormwater Engineer (Environmental Engineer 5)
About the role
The Department of Ecology is hiring a Senior Stormwater Engineer (Environmental Engineer 5) within the Water Quality Program. The position is located at the Headquarters Office in Lacey, WA. Upon hire, you must live within a commutable distance from the duty station. The position is eligible for telework and flexible schedule options, with a minimum of one day per week required in the office.
Responsibilities
- Address 6PPD-Q, a compound used in tire manufacturing that causes prespawn mortality in Coho salmon.
- Work with the 6PPD Task Force to identify, design, and implement best management practices for the treatment of 6PPD-Q in stormwater.
- Collaborate with the stormwater permit teams to write and implement statewide stormwater permits and update the statewide stormwater manuals.
- Attend and contribute to Stormwater Technical Team (SWTT) meetings, Muni Team meetings, WSDOT permit meetings, and other relevant workgroups and technical advisory committees.
- Represent the section as an authority in environmental engineering on municipal stormwater management and treatment.
- Attend conferences, communicate with groups, present research findings and results, and updates to the permits and manuals.
Qualifications
- Registration as a Professional Engineer in the state of Washington or another state based on registration requirements equivalent to those in Washington, AND five (5) years of experience in environmental engineering.
- Experience with stormwater management.
- Experience with hydrologic modeling.
- Possess an understanding of 6PPDQ contamination in stormwater.
