About the Role

WSP is seeking a senior Stormwater and Civil/Site Engineer for our Brentwood, TN location. This position involves leading and overseeing design tasks for municipal, state, and federal clients on transportation and civil/site projects. The role focuses on drainage and stormwater systems, erosion and sediment control strategies, and comprehensive civil/site design solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Collect, compile, and analyze data from physical work sites, surveys, blueprints, GIS data, subsurface utility information, maps, geotechnical data, and other matrices for project development, design, and construction.
  • Perform civil site design and analysis, including grading, drainage, and site layout.
  • Design drainage systems, develop drainage reports, stormwater pollution prevention plans (SWPPPs), perform hydrologic analyses, open channel hydraulics, bridge hydraulics calculations, cost estimates, and technical specifications.
  • Utilize discipline-specific design software (e.g., Open Roads Design, MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, Geopak, GeoSlope, ANSYS, STADD, HEC-RAS, HEC-HMS) for technical writing, office automation, and predictive modeling.
  • Work individually or as part of a cross-functional team of engineers, planners, and scientific professionals to execute project work.
  • Verify site characteristics and provide technical assistance on engineering, design, and construction issues.
  • Prepare data visualizations such as tables, charts, reports, sketches, calculations, and illustrations for interpreting or presenting data and findings.
  • Maintain quality control standards and procedures for accurate measurements, statistical analysis, and reporting.
  • Assist with the development and scoping of small- to medium-sized projects.
  • Conduct engineering studies and surveys to address design and construction problems or plan for future needs.
  • Analyze, evaluate, and interpret field investigation data, contributing to action plans for low- to mid-level risk mitigation.
  • Assist in preparing and implementing site Health and Safety Plans (HASPs).
  • Collaborate with other engineers and planners on infrastructure projects funded by federal, state, regional, and local authorities.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company resources and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in civil or environmental engineering, or a closely related discipline. Master’s degree preferred.
  • 5-7+ years of relevant post-education experience in engineering, with prior civil design experience.
  • Professional Licensure (PE).
  • Knowledge of civil engineering principles, practices, processes, design/build, and their application to permitting and project-related issues.
  • Experience with stormwater infrastructure planning, design, and construction management, including rehabilitation and new design.
  • Ability to coordinate with agency regulators and understand their requirements.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with both engineering and non-engineering audiences.
  • Self-leadership with attention to detail, results orientation, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Ability to learn new techniques, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, follow instructions, and work independently while complying with company policies.
  • High proficiency in technical writing, office automation, software, math principles, predictive models, spreadsheets, and tools.
  • Experience with design software such as Open Roads Design (ORD), MicroStation, AutoCAD, Civil 3D, ArcGIS, InRoads, HEC-RAS, and HEC-HMS.
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to apply technical knowledge and reach effective, economical, and logical solutions.
  • Commitment to upholding workplace safety and adhering to WSP’s health, safety, drug/alcohol, and harassment policies.
  • Flexibility to work schedules that may extend beyond the typical workweek based on project-specific requirements.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project needs.
