Senior Staff Software Engineer, iOS Platform

About the role

We are seeking a Mobile iOS Engineer with 12+ years of experience to join our team. This role involves architecting, building, testing, and refining Gusto’s iOS app, as well as supporting embedded mobile web views. You will work closely with teams across Product, Identity, Security, System Design, and Infrastructure to build solutions that enhance user experience.

Responsibilities

• Architect, build, test, and refine Gusto’s iOS app, along with supporting embedded mobile web views.
• Utilize AI agents to deliver high-quality output quickly.
• Identify and advocate for best practices, architecture, and process improvements.
• Enhance and maintain our iOS mobile infrastructure, including build pipelines, testing automation, and the release process.
• Develop, iterate, and improve product features that integrate core business functions, work tools, value-added services, and financial products.
• Collaborate closely with product management, design, and partner teams to identify technical and customer pain points, brainstorm solutions, and prototype, iterate, and launch those solutions.

Requirements

• A minimum of 10 years of experience in Swift and iOS software engineering, with at least 12 years in mobile software engineering overall.
• Excellent communication skills and a knack for building strong cross-functional partnerships.
• A self-driven mindset with the ability to tackle greenfield projects and bring innovative ideas to life.
• Proficiency in iOS testing frameworks and a solid understanding of best practices.
• Experience in developing platform components and common features that enhance scalability, consistency, performance, and maintainability throughout the product development lifecycle.
• Strong critical thinking abilities and a keen attention to detail.
• A willingness to learn continuously and a passion for mentoring others in the organization.

• Experience delivering high-quality code across a diverse tech stack.
• Experience with analytics and monitoring tools to track app performance / health and user engagement.
• Experience with mobile infrastructure, for example: CI/CD, automated testing environments, and release orchestration.
• Experience building a strong mobile foundation that feature teams can build on top of.
• Mobile Testing-at-scale.
• Strong knowledge of GraphQL.
• Experience working at scale on apps that span multiple teams and feature areas.
