About the role
We are seeking a Senior/Staff Data Platform Engineer to build and scale the foundation of Actively’s data ecosystem. This includes designing and scaling pipelines that ingest and transform diverse, often messy inputs into clean, structured representations for our agents.
Responsibilities
- Own the ingestion and transformation layer. Design and scale pipelines that pull structured and unstructured data from CRM systems, call transcripts, and external signals, normalizing and enriching it into representations agents can reason over in real time.
- Build for operational use, not just analytics. Ensure data freshness, accuracy, and low-latency access, as these matters greatly in real-time decision-making.
- Keep data current as the world changes. Architect real-time and mini-batch workflows using technologies like Pub/Sub, Kafka, or modern ETL tools to ensure data stays synchronized as customer activity happens.
- Solve for customer-specific variation at scale. Build transformation systems that stay consistent and correct across all CRM configurations without becoming brittle.
- Own reliability end-to-end. Implement observability, lineage, schema management, and alerting to ensure trust in the data across thousands of accounts.
- Work across the full stack. Fluidly contribute to Python, SQL, DBT, BigQuery, Snowflake, and other layers, contributing wherever the work needs it.
Requirements
- Deep roots in data systems, not just data tooling. 5+ years of experience designing and operating core data infrastructure in high-growth environments.
- Built for agents and models, not just reports. Experience with data systems powering ML models, intelligent workflows, or real-time decisioning.
- Familiar with the modern data stack. Proficient in Python, SQL, and DBT, with hands-on experience in BigQuery or Snowflake.
- Fluent in real-time infrastructure. Experience building streaming and mini-batch pipelines using Pub/Sub, Kafka, Dataflow, or similar technologies.
- Prior experience at a data infrastructure or platform company, or meaningful contributions to open-source data tooling.
- Experience building data pipelines where correctness was a hard requirement, such as financial data or compliance systems.
Qualifications
- Self-directed and accountable for quality. Take work from design to production without being managed through it, ensuring the data produced is trustworthy.
