About the role

Maven Clinic is seeking a Senior Staff Product Designer to lead the member-facing experience and drive innovation in AI-native design. Key responsibilities include owning complex, cross-functional initiatives, defining AI behaviors, developing scalable patterns, and mentoring the design team.

Responsibilities

  • Own the end-to-end experience across multiple projects, from concept to delivery, with strategic decision-making and tradeoff management.
  • Define how AI should behave in high-stakes contexts, ensuring clarity, trust, and appropriate human-AI collaboration.
  • Create functional prototypes using AI-assisted coding tools and push others to innovate beyond static designs.
  • Develop and implement AI-powered design patterns that enhance user experience and align with Maven's design system.
  • Partner strategically with Engineering, Product, Clinical, and Data teams to ensure alignment and effective problem-solving.
  • Mentor and develop leaders within the design team, fostering independence and effective delegation.
  • Identify and resolve cross-functional tensions, bridging gaps between design, clinical, and product perspectives.
  • Champion company-wide cultural initiatives to strengthen the design community.

Requirements

  • Award-winning AI fluency and experience using AI tools like Claude, Figma AI, Cursor, etc.
  • Voice coding skills, able to turn ideas into working prototypes using AI-assisted coding tools.
  • Technical depth, including experience shipping code to production and discussing backend architecture, model behavior, and system constraints.
  • Strategic craft demonstrated through a portfolio that shows evidence of defining success metrics, navigating ambiguity, and influencing direction.
  • Cross-functional leadership, with experience driving complex projects across multiple teams.
  • Experience designing for mobile applications and responsive web.
  • Systems thinking, ability to think holistically and communicate a scalable system.
  • An appetite for complexity, energized by ambiguity and solving complex problems.

  • Deep empathy for members navigating family building experiences, understanding the emotional intensity, medical complexity, and uncertainty involved.
  • AI-native mindset, thinking in terms of what AI makes possible and bringing others along in that thinking.
  • A desire to see the team grow and improve, with a focus on mentorship and leadership development.

Skills

  • Strong proficiency in AI tools and technologies.
  • Experience in healthcare, health tech, or regulated domains.
  • Background in working with ML and AI teams on model-driven products.
  • Experience contributing to or building a consumer-grade design system.
