Full-time role based at The Portland Hospital for Women & Children in Central London, working 37.5 hours per week across a rotating schedule including days, nights, and weekends. Shifts are 12.5 hours long, with 13 long days per month.

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Staff Midwife to join The Portland Hospital, the only fully private maternity hospital in the UK, delivering over 1,600 babies a year. Currently rated “Good” by the CQC, we place great importance on providing safe and high-quality care for expectant mothers, offering both consultant-led and midwife-led maternity care. Our multidisciplinary team includes 40 consultants, nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, and counsellors, with a strong emphasis on privacy and dignity.

As the Senior Staff Midwife, you will be responsible and accountable for delivering high-quality care within the maternity setting. You will work within the midwifery team to provide antenatal, intranatal, and postnatal care to all women during their inpatient stay and collaborate with Obstetric Consultants to support Consultant-Led Care.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality antenatal, intranatal, and postnatal care to women during their inpatient stay.
  • Work collaboratively within the midwifery team and alongside Obstetric Consultants to support Consultant-Led Care.
  • Ensure safe and compassionate maternity care with an emphasis on privacy and dignity.
  • Mentor and teach junior staff and students as required.

Requirements

  • NMC Registered Midwife.
  • Minimum of 2 years post-qualification experience within a UK hospital setting.
  • Demonstrable experience within a delivery suite/labour ward in the last 6-12 months.
  • Competent in Basic Adult and Newborn Life Support.
  • Experience in teaching and mentoring.
  • Competent at cannulation.
