About the Role

At Marvell, you can affect the arc of individual lives, lift the trajectory of entire industries, and fuel the transformative potential of tomorrow. The Firmware team builds highly integrated component platforms with high-speed Silicon photonics, transmit and receive amplifiers, and controller ASICs with Marvell DSPs. These components are made operational with highly functional embedded firmware. The team is responsible for the design, verification, and validation of these integrated high-speed optical components, performing system-level testing under various operating conditions to validate hardware, firmware, and control loops.

As an engineer on this team, you will be involved in the full product lifecycle, carrying new products from inception to NPI (New Product Introduction).

Responsibilities

  • Work individually, collaboratively, and cross-functionally on the design, implementation, testing, deployment, maintenance, and enhancement of firmware for embedded systems.
  • Collaborate with hardware and software teams on overall design, system requirements, schematics, and hardware validation.
  • Optimize firmware for performance, reliability, and power consumption.
  • Participate in design reviews, code reviews, and debugging sessions to create reliable solutions.
  • Lead bring-ups for next-generation Marvell products.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, including functional specifications, design documents, and test specifications.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends and emerging technologies.
  • Design and implement code unit testing processes.
  • Execute frequent releases for internal proprietary firmware and external customers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related fields with 3-5 years of related professional experience, or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related fields with 2-3 years of experience.
  • Experience with various microprocessor architectures (at least ARM or RISC-V).
  • Excellent team and communication skills; ability to work with a remotely located team.
  • Experience with RTOS, queuing, memory management, and interrupt processing.
  • Embedded device driver experience with communications protocols (e.g., SPI, I2C, MDIO, UART).
  • Experience writing control firmware for: CDR, Flash/EEPROM, Laser Driver, TEC Controller.
  • Understanding of parameter calibration techniques (e.g., interpolation, splines).
  • Expert C and Python programming skills.
  • Hands-on experience debugging in real-world environments with embedded diagnostics tooling such as oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and JTAG.
  • Working knowledge of hardware design schematics.
  • Working knowledge of version control systems (e.g., Git) and build environments (IDE, gmake).
  • Excellent English language and multitasking skills.
  • 20% travel is expected.

Pay

Expected base pay range: $132,500 – $196,140 per annum. The successful candidate’s starting base pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions.
