Senior Staff Environmental Risk Assessor or Toxicologist
About the Role
Join Geosyntec, an innovative, international engineering and consulting firm, as a Senior Staff Environmental Risk Assessor or Toxicologist in our contaminated site assessment, human health risk assessment, and remediation practice in Raleigh, North Carolina. This position offers the option of full-time office work or a hybrid schedule (2 days remote per week at the company’s discretion).

Responsibilities
- Collaborate with large, multidisciplinary teams to develop strategies for complex environmental problems.
- Plan and implement fieldwork, including:
- Sampling sediment, porewater, surface water, soil, and groundwater.
- Driller and contractor oversight.
- Construction quality assurance and oversight.
- Assist in developing work plans, scopes (e.g., Site Assessment), and reports (e.g., Remedial Investigation Reports).
- Manage and analyze data to support environmental investigations, preparing tables, figures, and exhibits.
- Evaluate chemical data, contaminant fate and transport, and physical material characteristics.
- Assess exposure and human health risks from chemicals in contaminated media and consumer products.
- Perform calculations for human health risk assessments and regulatory compliance.
- Conduct literature searches and critically review scientific studies on toxicology, chemical fate, exposure, and risk assessment.
- Maintain high ethical standards, accuracy, and attention to detail in all work products.
- Adhere to Geosyntec’s health and safety culture.
Fieldwork: Up to 40% (varies by project). Overnight travel: Up to 15-20% (varies by project).
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, biology, environmental engineering/science, toxicology, public health, or a related field (required).
- Advanced degree in public health or related science (preferred).
- Coursework in toxicology, environmental contamination, and chemical fate/transport (preferred).
- At least 2 years of applicable experience or equivalent combination of education and experience (required); consulting experience (preferred).
- Strong work ethic, self-motivation, and excellent written/oral communication skills (required).
- Ability to work successfully in a team and meet team objectives (required).
- Willingness to contribute to challenging projects with aggressive schedules (required).
- Proficiency in MS Office, SharePoint, and ability to learn additional software (required).
- Strong quantitative skills, experience managing large datasets in Excel, and presentation skills in PowerPoint (required).
- Ability to digest and summarize technical language from reports or regulatory documents (required).
- Flexibility to work on diverse projects, positive attitude, and commitment to workplace health and safety (required).
- Knowledge of exposure assessment, human health risk assessment, toxicology, and related regulations (preferred).
- Experience working in challenging outdoor environments (preferred).
- Prior research experience in environmental science or toxicology (preferred).
- Competency in statistics and quantitative data analysis with experience coding in R (preferred).
- Willingness to travel and perform fieldwork as needed (required).
- Valid U.S. driver’s license and satisfactory driving record (required).
