Senior Staff Electrical Engineer
About the role
An engineer in this role spends the day designing and verifying complex analog, digital, and mixed-signal electronics while performing hands-on PCBA bring-up and debugging. He will collaborate closely with cross-functional partners to refine system-level architecture. Root-cause analyses of issues to improve design follow by updating design and documentation and delivering the next prototype are the frequent tasks of this role. Aside from this responsibility, a senior staff will have the opportunity to help mentor junior engineers and guide them towards their success.
Responsibilities
- Lead and execute complex hardware development from concept through manufacturing and post-launch support.
- Designing, debugging, and verifying analog, digital, and mixed-signal electronics; architecting system-level electronics; overseeing PCBA layout, bring-up, and verification; and ensuring designs meet safety, EMC, quality, DFM, and DFT requirements.
- Collaborate cross-functionally, conduct root-cause and failure analyses (FMEA, field returns), support manufacturing and vendors.
- Contribute to test strategies and fixtures, and document designs throughout the product lifecycle.
- Occasional domestic and international travel (10–15%) is expected.
Requirements
- Education/Work Experience: BS/MS/PhD in Electrical Engineering or equivalent with relevant experience (10+ years for BS; less with advanced degree).
- Experience with high-voltage (kV) power supply design preferred, experience in offline power supply design is also in consideration.
- Strong foundation in analog, digital, power, and mixed-signal circuit design.
- Proven experience with microcontroller-based systems; familiarity with complex systems (MPUs, DSPs, FPGA/CPLDs) and high-speed interfaces (USB, DDR, Ethernet, LVDS) is a plus.
- Proficiency in schematic capture and PCB tools (Altium preferred; others a plus).
- Hands-on lab skills and experience with design verification, root-cause analysis, and manufacturing support.
- Knowledge of safety and EMC standards (EN61010, EN61326, UL/CE) and life science instrumentation is a plus.
