About the Role
As a Senior Staff Data Engineer at SiriusXM, you will join a high-performing team of engineers responsible for building, owning, and maintaining backend services, data products, and reporting applications. You will play a key role in designing and executing scalable data products and reporting systems for AdsWizz, collaborating with SXM Media and AdsWizz services to automate and provide insights into data onboarding.
Responsibilities
- Design and build high-performance, reliable, and scalable reporting APIs and data pipelines.
- Lead high-level architecture discussions and planning sessions, focusing on ad measurement, revenue, and addressability data.
- Collaborate with various engineering teams in a collaborative development process.
- Work closely with the Product team to clarify project scope, providing thoughtful feedback to challenge and clarify requirements.
- Execute tasks with clarity and precision, demonstrating ownership and providing clear direction to drive projects forward.
- Collaborate with Global Operations and Cloud Infrastructure teams to ensure smooth production deployments and support Incident Management.
- Mentor and guide junior engineers.
Requirements
- 12+ years of software engineering experience in Python or Java (preferably JDK17 or higher).
- 7+ years designing, building, and managing data pipelines using Spark, BigQuery, AWS EMR, and GCP Cloud Analytics.
- 7+ years crafting REST API-based microservices and scalable products, utilizing diverse cloud platforms (ideally AWS).
- Experience with cloud data warehouse & analytics platforms (Snowflake, BigQuery).
- Proficiency in observability tools like Prometheus, Grafana, and ELK stack.
- Experience with data pipeline expectations frameworks (e.g., Monte Carlo Data, Great Expectations, Soda).
- Working knowledge of containers (Docker, Kubernetes).
- Experience with messaging platforms and stream data processing (Kafka, Flink, Pub/Sub).
- Proficiency in collaboration tools like Miro, Jira, and Confluence.
- Strong understanding of software engineering processes, lifecycle methodology, configuration management, release management, and system verification/testing.
- Ability to work independently and oversee entire projects or significant parts, focusing on research and timely task completion.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail and a commitment to continuous improvement.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, or a similar field.
- Legal right to work in the U.S.
Nice to Have
- Expertise in caching implementations (Redis, Memcached, etc.).
- Experience designing and maintaining Public APIs and data contracts.
- Knowledge of security basics (e.g., OAuth2 standard).
- Familiarity with foundational Amazon Cloud Services (S3, CloudTrail, SQS, SNS, Lambda, API Gateway, ElasticCache, Athena, Kinesis, EKS, Cognito, etc.).
- Experience with NoSQL databases (Druid, DynamoDB, SingleStore, etc.).
- Hands-on experience with AI coding assistants and tools for coding and data analytics.
Pay
The expected base salary for this position ranges from $126,700 to $215,000, depending on skills, qualifications, and experience. This role may also be eligible for discretionary short-term and long-term incentives.
