Senior / Staff Backend Engineer, Maps

For our client, we are seeking a Senior / Staff Backend Engineer, Maps to join the team of a leader in the Information Technology space. This role will own the backend systems and data foundation that support a geocoding platform, with a strong focus on reliability, scale, and data quality. You will build and maintain data pipelines, contribute to API development, and help ensure the platform can process very high request volumes efficiently. This position also partners closely with customers and internal stakeholders to improve product performance through feedback and data enrichment. Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available Compensation: $150,000 – $180,000 annually Responsibilities Own the data foundation supporting the geocoding system Build and maintain data pipelines from commercial and open sources Integrate AI models for data enrichment and quality assurance Contribute across the geocoding stack, from data serving to API development Process over 1 billion API calls daily through optimized systems Engage with customers to gather feedback and improve the product Qualifications 5-7 years of experience in software engineering, focusing on backend technologies Proficiency in Scala and Python for building data pipelines Experience with Rust for backend service development Strong understanding of data modeling and API design Interest in customer interaction and product feedback Experience with high throughput applications, particularly in SaaS Familiarity with geospatial infrastructure is a plus Benefits Meaningful stock options in a fast-growing company 401(k) plan with 4% match New HQ in Flatiron, NYC Top-notch equipment provided Catered lunches Unlimited PTO Health, dental, and vision insurance with 100% employee coverage 12 weeks of paid parental leave Commuter and fitness benefits Our client is an equal opportunity employer.
