About the role

We are seeking an Electronic Packaging / Mechanical Engineer to work with a cross-functional team to develop Avionics systems. The position will follow the product from conceptualization through hardware integration and testing, and will interface with Designers, Thermal/Structural Analysts, Systems Engineers, as well as other engineering disciplines, Program Managers, and customer counterparts. The role involves performing mechanical engineering activities related to the design, analysis, documentation, processing, fabrication, assembly, and qualification of products with stringent technical, schedule, and process requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams in the development of new solutions.
  • Apply strong engineering fundamentals and analytical background to guide analyses and offer solutions related to mechanical, electro-mechanical, and opto-mechanical systems, including thermal, fluid, structural, and power analysis.
  • Create complex mechanical designs and execute layouts for multiple products.
  • Package electrical components such as Circuit Cards, Connectors, and cables, including design, integration, and validation in rugged environments (ground, avionics, and/or space).
  • Develop, integrate, and validate mechanical, electro-mechanical, and opto-mechanical designs.
  • Lead the mechanical design, prototyping, testing, and troubleshooting of designs.
  • Develop relevant design control documentation.
  • Interact with outside vendors to source parts.
  • Design additive manufactured parts, machined parts, weldments, sheet metal parts, and cable assemblies.
  • Ability to obtain US Government clearance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in engineering and minimum 6 years of prior relevant experience.
  • Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior related experience.
  • In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior related experience.

Skills

  • 5+ years experience in Mechanical design, requirements analysis, specification generation, interface definition, component selection, component 3D CAD modeling, data collection, and product documentation.
  • Experience with standard ASME Y14.5M-1994 and GD&T.
  • 2+ years experience in 3D CAD Modeling – PTC Creo, Catia, NX, or SolidWorks.
  • Experience packaging electronics including design for and testing to military environments (e.g., temperature, vibration, shock).
  • Experience with MS Office suite.
  • Prior or current experience working on avionics products or systems.
  • Experience packaging electronics for use in avionics platforms.
  • Design for Manufacturability and Assembly (DFM/DFMA) experience.
  • Experience with machined part design, plastic and/or sheet metal part design.
  • Experience with EVMS cost and schedule practices.
  • Experience with VITA Avionics designs.

Schedule

9/80: Employees work 9 out of every 14 days – totaling 80 hours worked – and have every other Friday off.
