About the role

L3Harris is searching for a Manufacturing Engineer to support the Agile Development Group at the Plano/Richardson, Texas sites. This role is responsible for solving manufacturing problems with innovative solutions and driving continuous improvement in manufacturing processes. You will be a key part of the Integrated Product Team to develop and execute manufacturing plans, collaborating with engineering disciplines, program management, quality assurance, and manufacturing.

This role is part of the Agile Development Group, specializing in developing disruptive, next-generation technologies for advanced Unmanned Air Systems (UAS/UAV), advanced radar systems, next-generation weapon systems, and other RF sensor technologies using small company agility and big company experience.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical input on product designs for manufacturing ease and cost considerations, including analyzing different design approaches and manufacturing methods.
  • Examine early assembly prototyping/testing to provide feedback in the design process.
  • Identify and justify capital equipment needs for capacity and capability expansion.
  • Manage large, complex project initiatives of strategic importance involving cross-functional teams.
  • Provide technical mentorship for the team in areas of expertise.
  • Manage complex projects or processes with general oversight.
  • Initiate and review manufacturing workflow and processes/procedures, such as:
    • Work/assembly instructions
    • Rework and modification instructions
    • Travelers/routers
    • Special process instructions
    • Standard repair instructions
  • Review and approve drawings for the Manufacturing Department (sign-off authority).
  • Make moderate to substantial improvements to systems and processes as needed.
  • Communicate information between design and manufacturing teams, ensuring design feedback is relayed to engineering.
  • Support Lean Manufacturing initiatives (e.g., 5S, Tool Control).
  • Up to 5% travel may be required.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree and minimum 6 years of prior Manufacturing Engineering experience.
  • Graduate Degree and a minimum of 4 years of prior Manufacturing Engineering experience.
  • In lieu of a degree, minimum of 10 years of prior Manufacturing Engineering experience.

Skills

  • Experience and knowledge of manufacturing methods, specifically in composites, metals, and electronics.
  • Experience leading small teams.
  • Technical writing experience, specifically work instructions and process documentation.
  • Experience with CCA assemblies.
  • Experience in aviation or military systems manufacturing.
  • Experience creating and presenting performance metrics.
  • Experience with Capital Equipment justification and BOEs.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products.
  • Excellent people skills, including collaborating in a multi-disciplinary, diverse, and dynamic team environment.
  • Excellent communication skills (written, verbal, and presentation).
  • Experience in 3D CAD software (Creo preferred).
  • Experience with Power BI or data analytics.
  • Experience/certification in lean practices (e.g., 5S, Six Sigma).

Schedule

9/80: Employees work 9 out of every 14 days—totaling 80 hours worked—and have every other Friday off.
