Summary of Position
The principal role of the Environmental Health and Safety Specialist is to implement Manufacturing Methods and Safety at the manufacturing plant. The right individual will have a thorough understanding of EHS HSE – Health, Safety and Environmental requirements including regulatory and compliance.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Leads all EHS requirements as an example for others to follow.
- Create a culture of awareness, acceptance & adherence to the EHS requirements.
- Develop, coordinate, implement, and maintain appropriate Health, Safety, Environmental, Industrial and Process Safety Programs and necessary related training.
- Track, report, and analyze key safety and environmental metrics; proactively meets KPI requirements in order to reduce exposure and control risk.
- Audit, analyze and collate EHS performance data and propose effective improvements.
- Perform facility audits, surveys and inspections to identify environmental and occupational hazards, to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and develop recommendations that provide solutions, remedies or process improvement.
- Recommend and implement new Green Processes while working closely with regulatory and corporate compliance via established auditing processes and risk analysis - work on various items with EPA, OSHA.
- Manage MSDS data - ensure safety in material handling.
- Lead Safety and Hazard assessments activities including Process Hazard Analysis, Job Safety Analysis.
- Attend training and seminars - then deliver training to staff in EHS/HSE/SHE skills and knowledge.
- Administer and manage the Workers Compensation program.
- Track compliance for the various Federal, State and Local environmental requirements.
- Lead Safety Team and Waste Minimization Team programs to resolve or improve EHS performance.
- Prepare, submit and document all EPA and OSHA requirements up to but not limited to OSHA 300 log, CAA, CWA, RCRA, storm water / waste water, Title V, PSM/RMP, SARA 311, 312, 313, Form R and Hazardous waste generator as well as Air Emissions annual inventory report.
- Develop and implement training for all personnel to assure understanding and compliance of EHS programs and environmental permit conditions.
- Oversee all chemical and hazardous waste management, including transportation.
- Support and account for the EHS budget, including timely review of EHS related invoices.
- Lead emergency preparedness and response programs, including drills and plan updates.
- Lead incident investigations, root cause analysis, and after-action management reviews; implement corrective and preventive actions.

Position Requirements and Qualifications
- 5-10 years EHS experience in a manufacturing environment
- 1+ years in an EHS leadership/management role is ideal
- Experience at an Automotive OEM and/or Tier 1 supplier is helpful
- Technical/ Computer Skills:
- Must have experience with implementation/certification ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001.
- Must thoroughly understand regulatory requirements, including OSHA and EPA compliance standards, as well as regulations related to storm water / wastewater, RCRA, PSM/RMP, Title V, CAA, CWA, Form R, Air Emissions reporting and other federal, state and local laws.
- Must have experience in risk management, ergonomics, personnel protective equipment, industrial safety, injury and incident investigation, reporting, auditing and training.
- Successful track record of designing and managing employee safety, worker’s compensation and drug testing programs.
- Must have the ability to implement process improvements and programming.
- Understanding and working knowledge of automotive plants and processes/principles, company products, trade terminology, and manufacturing processes is a plus.
- Ability to read and interpret training related documents for both office and production environments such as technical data, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Must be proficient with MS Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams).
- Experience with SAP is preferred

Education
- Associate degree in Safety, Environmental Engineering or other relevant discipline
- Certified Safety Professional (CSP) is desirable.
