As the Senior Sourcing Engineer, you bridge Engineering and Procurement at a strategic level, leveraging deep technical expertise to unlock supplier innovation, accelerate program execution, and align capabilities with our most ambitious quality, cost, delivery, and design objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Drive engineering-led sourcing strategy, supplier development, and outsourced manufacturing execution.
  • Provide strategic technical leadership across supplier qualification, vendor management, manufacturability analysis, and supply chain risk mitigation.
  • Resolve critical sourcing challenges, mentor junior sourcing personnel, lead cross-functional initiatives, and align supplier capabilities with organizational quality, cost, delivery, and innovation objectives.
  • Bridge Engineering and Procurement at a strategic level, leveraging extensive technical expertise and supplier relationship management to ensure competitive advantage and program success.
  • Lead sourcing strategy and supplier development initiatives across engineering-driven products, prototypes, capex systems, fixtures, tools, and complex externally manufactured assemblies, coordinating across Engineering, Procurement, Quality, Production, and Support Products.
  • Identify, evaluate, vet, and qualify new suppliers across diverse manufacturing capabilities including machining, fabrication, welding, finishing, plastics processing, and raw material supply; establish supplier capability profiles and performance benchmarks.
  • Conduct comprehensive reviews of engineering drawings, CAD models, specifications, bills of material, tolerances, materials, and finishes to identify sourcing risks, manufacturability constraints, and opportunities for cost and lead-time optimization before RFQ or manufacturing activity.
  • Collaborate directly with suppliers to clarify engineering intent, evaluate manufacturability, identify capability gaps, and resolve complex manufacturing questions; apply engineering judgment to triage issues and escalate design-critical or quality-critical decisions appropriately.
  • Prepare clear technical assessments, trade-off analyses, and recommended solutions when supplier feedback, manufacturing constraints, material availability, or tolerance questions require engineering review; drive decisions forward in partnership with design engineers.

  • Demonstrated experience working with machine shops, fabrication shops, contract manufacturers, and other external manufacturing partners; track record of successful supplier relationships and supplier development.
  • Deep technical understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, tolerances, finishes, quality systems, and manufacturing constraints across multiple disciplines (machining, fabrication, welding, finishing, plastics).
  • Advanced ability to read, interpret, and apply engineering drawings, CAD models, specifications, bills of material, and supplier documentation; experience with technical documentation review and clarification.
  • Proficiency with CAD software; demonstrated ability to make part, drawing, and manufacturing instruction updates under design engineer direction and in accordance with change-control processes.
  • Strong problem-solving, negotiation, and relationship-management skills; track record of building and maintaining productive long-term supplier relationships.
