The Senior Quality Engineer is responsible for designing scalable automated testing solutions, developing quality strategies, and partnering with Product, Engineering, and DevOps teams to ensure reliable, high quality software delivery. You will serve as a technical leader within the Quality Engineering organization, helping establish best practices, mentor team members, and continuously improve our testing capabilities. This role requires deep expertise in modern test automation, API and integration testing, CI/CD practices, and quality engineering principles. The ideal candidate is passionate about building quality into every stage of the software development lifecycle and thrives in complex, integrated enterprise environments. This role is accountable for overall product quality and is expected to leverage both automated and manual testing techniques. Responsibilities include developing automated test coverage while also performing exploratory, integration, end-to-end, and risk-based manual testing to uncover issues that may not be effectively detected through automation alone. The ideal candidate understands that automation is a means to improve quality, not a replacement for thoughtful testing and quality engineering practices, and can effectively balance manual and automated approaches to deliver comprehensive quality coverage. In This Role Quality Strategy & Leadership Define and execute quality strategies for applications, products, and business initiativesIdentify quality risks early and develop mitigation strategiesPartner with Product Managers, Developers, Architects, and DevOps teams to ensure quality is considered throughout the development lifecycleDrive adoption of modern quality engineering practices across teamsMentor and coach Quality Engineers on automation, testing best practices, and engineering excellence Test Automation Design, develop, and maintain scalable automated testing frameworksDevelop automated functional, regression, end-to-end, integration, and API test suitesImprove automation coverage and reduce manual testing effortEstablish automation standards, patterns, and reusable testing componentsLead automation framework enhancements focused on maintainability, reliability, and scalability. CI/CD & DevOps Integration Integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines to enable continuous testing and rapid feedbackCollaborate with DevOps teams to maintain testing environments and infrastructureSupport test execution strategies for build validation, regression testing, and release readinessImprove deployment confidence through automated quality gates API, Integration & Enterprise Testing Develop and execute API, contract, and integration testing strategiesValidate complex workflows spanning multiple applications and platformsEnsure data integrity across distributed systems and enterprise integrationsDesign testing approaches for highly integrated business processes Quality Improvement Analyze defects, identify root causes, and recommend preventative solutionsEvaluate testing tools and technologies to improve engineering efficiencyDefine and monitor quality metrics and reportingDrive continuous improvement initiatives focused on quality, reliability, and delivery speed Other Duties Other duties as assigned, in accordance with training and qualifications Uphold the Core Values and be a valuable member of the Four Hands TeamBe open and honest Reach for excellence Act with responsibility Value the whole person Enjoy the journey The Ideal Person 5+ years of experience in Quality Engineering, Test Automation, Software Development Engineering in Test (SDET), or a related role4+ years of hands-on experience developing automated tests using Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, or similar automation frameworksStrong experience with API testing and automation using tools such as Postman, REST Assured, Playwright API Testing, or equivalent solutionsExperience designing and maintaining scalable automation frameworksExperience integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or similar platformsStrong understanding of testing strategies, test architecture, and software quality principlesExperience validating complex integrations and distributed systemsProficiency with Git and modern development workflowsExperience working with Agile development methodologiesStrong troubleshooting, debugging, and root cause analysis skillsExcellent verbal and written communication skills About Four Hands Headquartered in Austin, Texas, since 1996, Four Hands crafts furniture, art and décor — pieces that are all about creating space.
