Location

This position is either hybrid out of our Denver, CO office or a fully remote position from within the Continental United States.

• If the candidate selected lives within a 20-mile radius of our downtown Denver office, they will be classified as a hybrid employee. Beginning September 8, 2026, working one day per week in office is expected. Beginning January 1, 2027, two days per week in office will be expected.
• If the candidate selected lives outside a 20-mile radius of the Denver office, they will be classified as a fully remote employee. In-person onsite visits to the Denver headquarters will be required on average three times per year.

Pay

The salary range for this position is between $145,000.00 - $160,000.00, depending on experience level.

Responsibilities

• Develop a deep understanding of complex systems and optimize for specific needs, including performance, resilience, observability, and testability
• Develop complex, high-quality features and mentor teammates to improve software development practices
• Design complex, large-scale systems with considerations for scalability and fault tolerance
• Write, debug, and maintain all types of automated tests, and advocate for testing strategy
• Implement and optimize CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure automation
• Integrate and optimize AI tools into the development process, establishing best practices and mentoring others on effective AI usage
• Communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences, mentor and guide team members, and facilitate discussions with empathy and adaptability
• Bridge gaps between teams, drive cross-team initiatives, and resolve complex dependencies
• Lead interview sessions and create documentation to help new hires ramp up
• Actively mentor and guide Engineering teammates, influencing the team's technical direction
• Develop and champion the team's technical strategy, driving technical culture within the team and department
• Identify, evaluate, and experiment with new technologies that could benefit the team
• Lead small to medium-sized projects, anticipate change, and adapt effectively
• Drive continuous improvement within the team and seek to reduce intrinsic and extraneous cognitive load
• Lead process and practice improvement on the team
• Conduct high-quality code reviews and identify areas for improvement
• Create clear and concise technical documentation for code, systems, and processes
• Identify edge cases, ask insightful questions, and explain business use cases to others
• Identify solutions that balance technical and business needs and explain how technical decisions affect business outcomes
• Synthesize requirements, team goals, and organizational context to analyze, inform, and make important decisions
• Anticipate future challenges and plan for them
• Lead technical projects, take ownership of critical components, systems, and practices

Requirements

• 5+ years of experience as a full stack engineer
• 3+ years of experience with Ruby on Rails
• Expertise creating robust CI/CD pipelines
• Expertise with modern cloud native development (Docker, Kubernetes, Knative)
• Experience leading collaborative software design sessions
• Experience leading continuous improvement of Engineering practices
• Eagerness and willingness to learn new technologies
• Expertise with version control systems
• Expertise with RESTful web services
• Strong understanding of SOLID principles and design patterns
• Expertise using database technologies and patterns

Schedule

Must be available to work standard business hours, and occasional nights/weekends. Travel may be necessary for team events.
