Senior Software Engineer (Scala)
About the Role
Quantifind is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to work on Quantifind’s Apache Spark pipeline that generates risk signal results from diverse data sources such as Sanctions, PEP records, Negative News, Court & Arrest records, and more. You will help define and deliver data services and machine learning infrastructure. The Platform Team owns the backend that powers the SaaS products we build for our customers. We process terabytes of data each day on our own dedicated Apache Spark clusters.
As a Senior Platform Engineer, you will work on Quantifind’s Apache Spark batch infrastructure in Palo Alto, CA. Quantifind’s development team is centered in Palo Alto, with technology hubs in Atlanta, Georgia, and Washington, D.C. We currently use a hybrid mix of working from home and in the office, with regular in-person touchpoints and shared office space.
Responsibilities
- Write clean, performant, and maintainable code that powers well-designed microservices and enhances Quantifind’s distributed data platform.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams including Data Scientists, DevOps Engineers, Front-end Engineers, and Product Managers.
- Proactively improve the design, performance, and testing of the software you build.
- Balance immediate competing priorities while taking a long-term view to build a bigger and better company and culture.
- Design and prototype scalable algorithms, and create efficient data structures when needed.
- Build microservices with REST APIs for real-time query engines and web crawlers.
- Deploy microservices in Kubernetes and set up ETL pipelines for data streams.
- Work closely with Sales, Product, and Technology teams to promote a customer-centric culture.
- Deliver solutions at the intersection of software and consulting to delight clients at leading financial institutions.
Requirements
- BS or MS in Computer Science.
- 5+ years of professional experience as a Software Engineer with a focus on platform engineering.
- Professional experience at a software startup is strongly preferred.
- Solid understanding of concurrency and distributed systems.
- Professional experience building software with Scala and/or Java.
- Experience working with code that runs in a JVM.
- Deep understanding of algorithm complexity and performance implications.
- Experience with Apache Spark, HDFS, Iceberg, Airflow, and/or general MapReduce technologies.
- Professional experience writing unit tests and automated integration tests.
- Familiarity with storage and caching solutions (Memcached, Redis, Postgres, etc.) and their tradeoffs.
- Familiarity with Machine Learning techniques.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship now or in the future.

Pay
The base salary range for this full-time position is $175,000–195,000. Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location, with the range displayed reflecting the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries across all US locations. Individual pay is determined by work location, role-related knowledge and skills, depth of experience, relevant education or training, and additional role-related considerations. Depending on the position, equity, bonuses, commission, or other forms of compensation may also be provided as part of a total compensation package, in addition to medical, financial, and other benefits.
