Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT), a leading defense technology company, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Engineering team in Arlington, VA, Mount Laurel, NJ, or San Diego, CA. The selected candidate will lead the design, development, testing, and integration of software solutions to support our customers, focusing on building high-quality, innovative, and performant software that complies with coding standards and technical design.
All applicants must be able to obtain and maintain an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance. This is an on-site position requiring at least 4 days per week in the office.
Responsibilities
- Scope and define requirements: Manage formal and informal requirements to define, validate, and control project scope to ensure successful deliverables.
- Drive the conversion of customer requirements into a refined vision.
- Oversee and lead the development of user, functional, and technical requirements for software systems.
- Design and implement solutions using state-of-the-art data structures, algorithms, patterns, and tools.
- Lead the exploration and prototyping of next-generation solutions.
- Design, implement, and test software using multiple languages and technology stacks.
- Develop software interfaces to communicate across various network protocols and messaging frameworks.
- Integrate software components into complex software environments.
- Maintain a focus on quality to produce deliverables that meet stakeholder objectives and acceptance requirements.
- Lead design and code reviews, providing constructive feedback to peers.
- Develop software using secure coding practices.
- Lead test and integration activities in IDT labs and on-site customer labs.
- Assess, plan, identify, analyze, mitigate, and control risks and opportunities.
- Manage the preparation, tracking, and delivery of contractual deliverables.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, cybersecurity, or a related field, or equivalent full-time professional experience.
- 7-10+ years of relevant experience.
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time, as needed.
- Proven experience mentoring and leading junior engineers.
- Expert understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle.
- Expert understanding of object-oriented programming.
- Deep understanding of distributed systems, algorithms, data structures, and software design patterns.
- Ability to identify and describe algorithmic complexity.
- Experience converting customer requirements into a refined vision.
- Experience with software testing and configuration management.
- Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.
- Solid analytical abilities, coupled with a strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive.
- Excellence in oral, written, and technical communication with peers and non-technical cohorts.
- Initiative, creativity, reliability, and teamwork.
Skills
- Experience as an AI Engineer, Generative AI Engineer, Data Pipeline Engineer, Platform Engineer, or Cloud Engineer/Architect.
- Experience as a Software Security or Cloud Security Engineer.
- Expertise in developing software with one or more modern programming languages/frameworks.
- Experience developing Service-Oriented Architecture (SOA) software.
- Experience leading the integration and testing of complex software applications.
- Experience with testing software and test automation.
- Experience with relational and/or non-relational databases.
- Experience with containerized deployment technologies.
- Experience designing and developing APIs.
- Experience with various network/messaging protocols.
- Experience designing, developing, and maintaining application security controls.
- Experience working with version control software.
- Experience developing web user interfaces with modern libraries/frameworks.
- Experience using AI to accelerate software development activities and delivery to customers.
- Understanding of basic network and virtualization concepts.
Pay
Pay range: $135,000 - $231,000 or $164,000 - $273,000 per year, commensurate with experience. The posted range does not include bonuses, commissions, tips, or other benefits.
