About The Role
Innovative Defense Technologies (IDT), a leading defense technology company, is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to be part of our Engineering team and based out of our Arlington, VA, Mount Laurel, NJ, or San Diego, CA location. The selected Software Engineer will be responsible for leading the design, development, testing, and integration of software solutions to support our customers. The main role of the Senior Software Engineer is to build high-quality, innovative, and performant software that complies with coding standards and technical design.
Clearance & Location Requirements
All applicants must be able to obtain/maintain an active Secret U.S. Security Clearance. This is an on-site position. Requiring at least 4 days in the office, based out of our Arlington, VA, Mount Laurel, NJ, or San Diego, CA location.
Key Responsibilities
- Scope and Define Requirements: Manage formal and informal requirements to define, validate and control scope to complete all the deliverables within a project successfully
- Drive the conversion of customer requirements into a refined vision
- Oversee and lead the development of user, functional, and technical requirements for software systems
- Engineer Solutions: Design and implement solutions that meet specific requirements using state-of-the-art data structures, algorithms, patterns, and tools
- Lead the exploration and prototyping of next-generation solutions
- Design, implement, and test software using multiple languages and technology stacks
- Develop software interfaces to communicate across various network protocols and messaging frameworks
- Integrate software components into complex software environments
- Assure Quality: Maintain a focus on quality that produces deliverables that meet objectives and align needs, uses, and acceptance requirements set forth by relevant stakeholders
- Lead design and code reviews, providing constructive feedback to peers
- Develop software using secure coding practices
- Lead test and integration activities in IDT labs, as well as on-site customer labs
- Manage Risk and Opportunities: Assess, plan, identify, analyze, mitigate and control risks and opportunities
- Manage the preparation, tracking, and delivery of contractual deliverables
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Bachelor’s Degree in computer science, software engineering, computer engineering, cybersecurity, related field, or equivalent full-time professional experience.
- 7-10+ years of relevant experience.
- Ability to travel up to 10% of the time, as needed.
- Proven experience mentoring and leading junior engineers.
- Expert understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle.
- Expert understanding of object-oriented programming.
- Deep understanding of distributed systems, algorithms, data structures and software design patterns.
- Ability to identify and describe algorithmic complexity.
- Expert understanding of software testing and configuration management.
- Experience supporting and working with cross-functional teams in a dynamic environment.
- Solid analytical abilities, coupled with a strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive.
- Excellence in oral, written, and technical communication with peers and non-technical cohorts.

Pay Range*
$135,000 - $231,000 or $164,000 - $273,000 Pursuant to California Senate Bill 1162, IDT is required to disclose the “pay scale” or “pay range” associated with a job posting. Notably, however, this amount may not be reflective of actual compensation that may be earned as pay is dependent on a candidate’s experience, skills, and education. IDT is often looking to place multiple candidates at various levels. Therefore, more than one pay range has been included, commensurate with experience.
