Senior Software Engineer — Enterprise Operating System
Application closes on 08/18/2026. Relocation provided. Travel expected up to 15% of the time.
About the role
This role is part of the Blue Origin Engines business unit, where our focus is the design, development, manufacturing, and testing of engines and propulsion systems. We are creating an entirely new internal operating system: a single, purpose-built software platform that unifies Material Requirements Planning (MRP), production scheduling, engineering, repair, service, and customer inputs into one intelligent "nervous system" for the enterprise. As the Product / Customer Lead, you will own the vision, define the requirements, and deliver this platform from the ground up.
Responsibilities
- Own the product vision, strategy, and multi-year roadmap for a new enterprise operating system spanning MRP, production scheduling, engineering, repair, service, and customer data.
- Serve as the voice of the customer — engaging manufacturing operators, engineers, supply chain, service teams, and program stakeholders to capture needs and translate them into clear, prioritized product requirements.
- Use AI-assisted development tools (Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or similar) to accelerate implementation.
- Elicit, document, and manage requirements, including functional specifications, user stories, and acceptance criteria that convert complex business processes into system logic and data structures.
- Recruit, grow, mentor, and lead a cross-functional team of product managers, engineers, and analysts; establish team culture, processes, and delivery cadence.
- Drive architectural and technical trade-off decisions across MRP, scheduling, engineering (PLM/BOM/routings), repair/service, and customer-data domains.
- Define and manage the product backlog, prioritize features, and partner with software engineering to deliver iterative, high-value releases.
- Establish success metrics and KPIs (e.g., schedule adherence, material availability, cycle time, data accuracy) and drive continuous improvement based on performance and user feedback.
- Lead change management and adoption strategies to ensure the platform becomes the trusted single source of truth across the enterprise.
- Ensure seamless integration and data traceability across engineering, manufacturing, supply chain, service, and customer systems.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, Industrial/Systems Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 8+ years of relevant experience in software product management, business systems, or technical product leadership, including hands-on delivery of complex enterprise software.
- Demonstrated experience leading the development, implementation, or ownership of MRP/ERP, MES, or PLM systems in a manufacturing or engineering environment.
- Proven ability to gather requirements and translate business processes (BOMs, routings, scheduling, production planning, inventory, repair/service workflows) into system requirements.
- Strong stakeholder-management, communication, and cross-functional influencing skills across all organizational levels.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or Business Administration.
- 10+ years of relevant experience in software product management, business systems, or technical product leadership, including hands-on delivery of complex enterprise software.
- Experience in aerospace, defense, or high value/complex manufacturing environments.
- Hands-on experience building or standing up a greenfield / net-new enterprise platform (vs. configuring off-the-shelf software).
- Technical fluency with data and integration concepts (SQL, APIs, relational databases, system interoperability).
- Familiarity with common enterprise platforms (SAP, Oracle, Siemens Teamcenter, or similar) and with agile product development and lifecycle management.
- Experience mentoring and developing product managers or analysts.
- Relevant certifications such as PMP, CPIM, Certified Product Manager, or vendor-specific ERP credentials.
