Responsibilities
- Apply systems thinking to full-stack design across C# / .NET microservices, an Angular SPA (4u-ui), and a PHP 8 / Slim 4 monolithic API (4u-api) — accounting for feedback loops, blast-radius constraints, and second-order effects on downstream event consumers.
- Contribute to team-owned C# / .NET microservices, particularly search-service (OpenSearch-backed full-text search) and notifications-service (email and digest delivery), ensuring reliability and consistent integration across the platform.
- Collaborate with platform engineers on the event-driven messaging layer — understanding how 4u-api outbox events propagate via MassTransit and SQS to .NET consumer services and how index consistency is maintained across search-service.
- Build and evolve API endpoints and Angular components across the advisor engagement surface — Browse, Search, Save Search, Collections, Campaigns, and Notifications — with clear domain intent, well-defined contracts, and testable implementations.
- Own features end-to-end within the Engage domain, including enhancement, refactoring, and deprecation; identify PHP monolith behaviors that are candidates for extraction into discrete C# / .NET services, and execute those transitions with clean contracts and no disruption to downstream consumers.
- Troubleshoot complex issues spanning PHP API logic, Angular frontend behavior, MySQL data anomalies, .NET service failures, and cross-service propagation delays.
- Drive high-quality, testable code across all layers; partner with QA, architects, and cross-functional teams through code reviews and technical discourse to raise the bar on consistency, maintainability, and engineering culture.
- Partner with platform and DevOps teams to influence CI/CD, observability, and deployment practices while ensuring services meet security, compliance, scalability, and availability standards.
- Contribute to architecture documentation and technical design records to support team scalability and onboarding across a distributed engineering organization.
Required Competencies
- 10+ years of software engineering experience with deep expertise in PHP and full-stack delivery — including Angular or a comparable TypeScript SPA framework and C# / .NET (Core/5+) backend service development.
- Strong experience with relational databases (MySQL or similar), ORM patterns (Eloquent or equivalent), and safe migration practices; proven ability to navigate and improve large, mature PHP codebases while making and defending architectural decisions in complex, long-lived environments.
- Clear judgment about where a problem is best solved — API layer, frontend, or downstream service — and demonstrated experience navigating speed, correctness, and scalability tradeoffs in high-blast-radius monolithic systems that serve both end users and microservice consumers.
- Strong debugging and analytical skills across full-stack and distributed workflows, including asynchronous side effects that originate in API events and materialize in downstream services or UI state.
- Experience incorporating AI tooling into the development workflow (GitHub Copilot, LLM chatbots, etc.) and excellent communication skills for a distributed, global engineering team.
Preferred Competencies
- Experience with Java-based backend services — particularly Spring Boot or comparable frameworks — in environments where Java services operate alongside PHP and .NET in a shared microservices topology.
- Familiarity with OpenSearch or Elasticsearch — search query design, index consistency patterns, and integration from an upstream event publisher's perspective.
- Experience with event-driven architecture patterns — messaging queues (SQS/SNS or equivalent), transactional outbox or saga patterns, and consumer service design in environments where a monolith propagates domain events to multiple downstream consumers.
- Prior experience as a technical lead or architect for full-stack product features in a multi-tenant SaaS environment, including feature-flag-driven delivery across large, distributed user bases.
