About the role

Cape is a privacy-first mobile carrier founded in 2022 by individuals committed to privacy as a fundamental right. The company aims to provide secure and private mobile services, focusing on building its own network from scratch to offer unique privacy and security features.

Responsibilities

  • Own and continuously improve Cape's continuous integration and deployment pipelines, ensuring build times, flakiness rates, parallelism, caching, and test isolation are optimized.
  • Drive reliability improvements by eliminating common failure modes such as flaky tests, non-reproducible builds, slow pipelines, and environment drift between local and CI.
  • Instrument and measure the development pipeline end-to-end, establishing baselines, tracking trends, and identifying bottlenecks before they affect engineers.
  • Build and maintain internal tooling, scripts, and SDKs used by engineers daily, including project scaffolding, local dev setup, testing utilities, and debugging aids.
  • Evaluate and introduce new tools thoughtfully, gathering feedback and deprecating what isn't working.
  • Write documentation and runbooks to make complex infrastructure accessible to engineers who don't need to become infrastructure experts.
  • Own the local development environment story, including containerized setups, secrets management, service dependencies, and onboarding time for new engineers.
  • Own the reliability and operational health of internal developer platforms, treating them like production systems.
  • Work across the full engineering organization, collaborating with platform, product, and security teams.
  • Implement AI-assisted development strategies, integrating AI coding tools that respect security and compliance requirements, and measure productivity impacts rigorously.
  • Identify patterns of friction across the engineering organization, set high standards for the developer experience, and contribute to engineering standards around testing, code review, and deployment practices.
