Senior Software Engineer - Backend/Kotlin (REMOTE)
About the role
For our client, we are seeking a Senior Software Engineer - Backend/Kotlin (REMOTE) to join the team of a leader in the Retail & Consumer Goods space. This role will focus on building and supporting scalable backend systems that power key product experiences in a fast-moving consumer-facing environment. You will contribute to reliable software delivery, observability, and operational excellence while partnering closely with engineers, product stakeholders, and other cross-functional teammates. The position also offers the opportunity to influence backend architecture, improve development practices, and help shape solutions that strengthen both software quality and customer experience. Location: Remote - US based candidates only, no visa sponsorship available.
Responsibilities
- Develop, test, document, and deploy high-quality software into production
- Build features and tools for team use
- Participate in an on-call rotation to troubleshoot software issues
- Escalate roadblocks in tasks or projects
- Engage in code reviews to maintain quality and share knowledge
- Contribute to team planning and design discussions
- Improve software quality and customer experience for product features
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience building scalable backend distributed systems
- Proficiency in Spring with Kotlin and/or Java is a plus
- Ability to drive best practices in backend development and mentor others in coding and architectural strategies
- Knowledge of observability practices, including logging, monitoring, and tracing in distributed systems
- Expertise in Agile software delivery with a track record of process improvements across teams
- Excellent communication skills for conveying complex technical concepts to diverse audiences

Pay
Compensation: $121,000 – $200,000 annually
