Position Summary

The Imperium team builds and operates a scalable decisioning platform within Walmart’s ecosystem that has evolved beyond traditional business policies into a comprehensive rules management system. It acts as a centralized engine, enabling consistent, high-performance, rules-driven decision making across a wide range of use cases and downstream systems. The team focuses on delivering long-term, high-impact solutions, using data-driven insights to continuously improve the platform. Working in a collaborative, agile environment, the team iterates quickly, incorporates feedback, and ensures the system remains reliable, efficient, and adaptable as it grows in scope and adoption.

What you'll do

  • Designed and developed highly scalable services to solve complex software system challenges using modern technologies.
  • Provided technical direction and architectural leadership across engineering teams.
  • Led by example as a senior developer, promoting best practices and high code quality.
  • Drove high-visibility, cross-organizational projects from concept to delivery.
  • Translated business and product requirements into scalable technical solutions and architectures.
  • Collaborated with cross-functional teams to deliver complex projects on time.
  • Conducted unit testing, debugged issues, and implemented fixes to improve system reliability.
  • Enhanced system designs to prevent recurring defects and improve performance.

What you'll bring

  • 8+ years of experience building highly available backend systems in Java.
  • Experience designing and developing scalable services and solving complex system problems.
  • Proficiency in RESTful microservices and API design/development.
  • Hands-on experience with SQL/NoSQL databases (e.g., Cosmos DB, Azure SQL, BigQuery).
  • Experience with caching technologies such as Redis or Memcached.
  • Familiarity with event-driven architectures using Kafka.
  • Strong coding skills with a focus on modular, maintainable, and testable code; experience with unit and integration testing (JUnit, Mockito, Mock MVC).
  • Experience working on complex, cross-functional projects, including requirements analysis, system design, development, testing, troubleshooting, and on-time delivery.
  • Familiarity with ETL experience with Apache Spark (Scala/PySpark), Python, and SQL.

Minimum Qualifications
