About the role

The Senior Software Engineer will be part of an agile product team collaborating with the Technology Delivery Manager (TDM), Digital Product Managers (DPM), and other product team members on the Reinsurance team. The role involves capturing stakeholder requests and system specifications, translating them into high-quality systems that solve real business problems. This position reports to the Senior Vice President, Software Engineering and will lead a small team of developers.

The base salary expectation for this role is between $150,000 and $200,000, with actual compensation potentially higher based on candidate experience. Responsibilities

  • Consult with enterprise architects and senior technology leadership to ensure engineering alignment with enterprise architecture principles and software development best practices.
  • Collaborate with testers and other developers in an agile team to create high-quality, creative solutions.
  • Complete complex software development work, including creative application design, coding, and debugging.
  • Build user-friendly, resilient applications and services with optimized user and developer experiences to accelerate business solution delivery.
  • Deliver business-facing solutions in weeks rather than months, working directly with product managers, full-stack developers, data scientists, and business users.
  • Work with testers to ensure adequate software testing and participate in quality assurance as needed.
  • Provide guidance to stakeholders on effective and efficient approaches to achieve project and program objectives.
  • Manage engineering risks by proactively tracking and communicating issues and devising mitigation strategies.
  • Lead architecture and design discussions, coordinating with other project and program areas to resolve interdependencies.
  • Contribute to the creation of the product roadmap with high-level estimates for the TDM and DPM.
  • Maintain knowledge of new technology and software development best practices and trends.
  • Establish and advocate for engineering culture, standards, and processes across the company, coaching and mentoring newer team members.
  • Demonstrate flexibility as responsibilities evolve in a growing company.

Requirements

  • 8-10 years of hands-on software development experience as a full-stack developer, with a demonstrated ability to deliver high-quality software.
  • Strong JavaScript development experience with frameworks like React and Node.
  • Strong Python development experience.
  • Experience using AI development techniques (e.g., Claude, Gemini) to drive solutions efficiently, including:
    • End-to-end AI feature architecture (UI/UX, backend orchestration, multi-turn conversation state).
    • Advanced prompt and context engineering (system prompts, dynamic context injection, structured output formats).
    • Tool use/function calling and agentic workflows (APIs, error handling, retries, multi-step agent loops).
    • RAG pipeline ownership (embeddings, vector DB, chunking strategy, latency/relevance tuning).
    • Production reliability and cost optimization (rate limiting, fallback logic, caching, monitoring/evals).
  • Experience building serverless application components in Azure or AWS.
  • Demonstrated ability and desire to learn new programming languages and frameworks.
  • Knowledge of insurance and/or willingness to learn new business processes.
  • Experience across multiple infrastructure and application domains (cloud, network, storage, containers/Kubernetes, databases, middleware, DevOps).
  • Broad knowledge of software development techniques, processes, methods, and best practices.
  • Experience with DevSecOps and CI/CD tools (Git, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, code analysis, quality gates).
  • Strong strategic decision-making and long-term planning abilities to manage resources and solve complex business problems.
  • Strong understanding of Agile development methods and their application to company technology needs.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or equivalent professional experience.

Pay
