This role is hybrid, requiring 2 days in-office at our San Francisco hub every Tuesday & Wednesday (130 Sutter St). Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship now or in the future.
About the Role
This role is on the Operations Technology Team. Our team focuses on building features and tools to support internal departments like Customer Support, Task Logistics, Marketing, and Tasker Success as they manage our marketplace and work with our Clients and Taskers. Our charter is to provide Operations with intelligent tooling required to grow our business, optimize resources, and protect our community. Our goal is that every job gets done with a high-quality experience for the user.
Responsibilities
- Work across the entire tech stack in a cross-functional team to build end-to-end features.
- Collaborate with design and product management to conceptualize new product features from the ground up.
- Build backend APIs to support clients, taskers, and internal users.
- Organize code across the stack: determine what belongs in the frontend versus the backend.
- Architect and create complex solutions to backend challenges.
- Mentor junior software engineers by helping them think through designs, code implementation, and breaking down goals into actionable steps.
- Participate in code reviews, providing and incorporating feedback on different approaches.
- Invest in documenting best practices and coding patterns.
- Solve complex debugging, testability, and deployability problems.
- Collaborate across teams to promote consistency.
- Contribute to the technical roadmap of ongoing improvements, enhancements, and updates.
- Provide technical leadership and communicate overall progress to Engineering Leadership.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience, comfortable working independently.
- Proficient with Ruby/Rails, JavaScript, React.js, Next.js, and Node.js.
- Experience building API-driven applications.
- Understanding of how to organize code across the stack (frontend vs. backend).
- Comfortable with test frameworks.
- A strong advocate of clean code.
Nice-to-Have Skills
- Experience with event-driven architecture.
- Experience with modeling mappings and leveraging ElasticSearch.
- GraphQL or Federated API layer experience.
- Familiarity with automated testing and JS build/packaging systems like Webpack and Jest.
- Experience leading and delivering cross-functional projects.
- A growth mindset and a desire to learn, teach, and mentor others.
Pay
The base pay range for this position is $160,000 – $180,000. This range represents base pay only and does not include bonuses or benefits. Final offer amounts may vary based on factors such as relevant experience, qualifications, geography, and level.
