About the Role
We're seeking a Senior Software Engineer to join our Tasker & Supply team. You’ll raise the quality bar across our ecosystem, shaping the experience of Taskers who power our marketplace. Your work will focus on onboarding, category/skill eligibility, marketplace matching via our Ruby on Rails engine, and moving service contracts toward strongly-typed TypeScript bindings.
Responsibilities
- Architect: Collaborate with engineering leadership to define the multi-quarter technical roadmap for Tasker & Supply (onboarding, category eligibility, geography, matching). Drive strategy, reduce tech debt, and evolve engine boundaries, gateway contracts, and data models.
- Tech Lead: Spearhead complex, cross-team initiatives around marketplace liquidity and supply-demand matching.
- Solver: Translate ambiguous, high-stakes business goals into clear technical strategies, designs, and experiments.
- Operational Excellence: Improve reliability and observability (Datadog, Kafka) for onboarding, matching, and supply-side systems. Debug production issues and implement systemic fixes.
- Multiplier: Serve as our Ruby/Sorbet expert. Champion testing, AI practices, mentorship, and documentation.
- Champion AI-Driven Development & Contract Binding: Lead adoption of Spec-Driven Development with AI tools and migrate service integrations to strongly-typed TypeScript contracts.
Requirements
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a track record of leading complex work and influencing multiple teams.
- Strong background in Ruby on Rails and typed Ruby (Sorbet), plus working knowledge of TypeScript, especially contract-driven type generation.
- Solid SQL and data modeling skills (MySQL).
- Hands-on experience with async/event-driven systems (Kafka) and service/engine-boundary architecture.
- Proven ability to build and own observability/alerting for critical systems.
- Strong communication skills, ability to influence without authority, and ownership of systems impacting marketplace supply and Tasker trust.
Nice to Have
- Experience with Spec-Driven Development.
- Hands-on experience with AI tools.
- Experience replatforming legacy monoliths into cleanly-bounded engines.
- Experience migrating typed backends to TypeScript-bound contracts.
Schedule
This role is hybrid, requiring 2 days in-office at our San Francisco hub (130 Sutter St) every Tuesday and Wednesday.
Pay
The base pay range for this position is $130,000–$180,000. Final offers may vary based on experience, qualifications, geography, and level.

- Time Off: Flexible PTO with 2 company-wide closure weeks annually.
- Stipends: Taskrabbit product, wellness, productivity, and education stipends.
- Discounts: IKEA discounts.
- Culture: Hybrid flexibility, diverse and inclusive workplace, and meaningful work with a collaborative team.
