Senior Software Engineer

About the role

Sightline Systems is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to serve as the technical lead for our core development team. This is a leadership role: you will set the technical direction, own architectural decisions, drive code quality standards, and actively develop and mentor the engineers around you. Expect a roughly 50/50 split between hands-on development and technical leadership responsibilities. You will report to the Project Manager and work closely with the CEO and stakeholders to translate product requirements into sound engineering solutions. The team you will lead consists of junior, mid-level, and senior developers across the EDM product line.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of professional software developers
• Provide technical guidance and code review oversight
• Foster a collaborative team environment that encourages professional growth
• Guide architectural decisions and establish development best practices
• Coordinate with stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions
• Mentor junior and mid-level developers in career development
• Actively develop and maintain enterprise applications using Java EE, JSF 2.0, and related technologies
• Develop and maintain RESTful APIs and browser-based user interfaces
• Work with relational and time-series databases (PostgreSQL, InfluxDB, etc.)
• Implement containerization and cloud deployment using Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS
• Apply security best practices and vulnerability remediation
• Utilize AI-assisted coding tools to enhance development productivity and code quality
• Manage projects using Jira, Confluence, and Agile/Scrum methodologies

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent experience
• 7+ years of professional software development experience, with at least 2 years in a technical lead or senior individual contributor role
• Strong proficiency in Java EE platform development for enterprise applications
• Expertise in building browser-based user interfaces using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript
• Experience with JSF 2.0 framework
• Solid understanding of C/C++ programming
• Cross-platform development experience in Linux/Unix and Windows environments
• Proven experience with relational databases and SQL (PostgreSQL, MySQL, Oracle)
• Working knowledge of ORM technologies such as Hibernate
• Experience with Time Series databases, specifically InfluxDB
• Proficiency in developing RESTful APIs
• Mobile application development experience
• Scripting capabilities in both Windows and Linux environments
• Experience with containerization technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes
• Hands-on experience with AWS cloud technologies for building and deploying applications
• Strong version control skills using Git, including gitflow workflows
• Familiarity with Agile/Scrum methodologies, sprint planning, and iterative delivery
• Experience with security best practices and vulnerability remediation
• Experience working with Jira for project tracking and issue management
• Familiarity with Confluence for documentation and knowledge sharing
• Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders
• Strong organizational and task management skills
• Demonstrated ability to adapt and learn new technologies

Preferred Qualifications

• Familiarity with Dart and Flutter
• Experience with Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB)
• Knowledge of Java Management Extensions (JMX) and Remote Method Invocation (RMI)
• Experience with PrimeFaces framework
• Familiarity with JBoss/WildFly application servers
• Experience with jQuery and Ajax for enhanced web interactivity
• Performance profiling and optimization for large-scale data processing workloads

Pay

This position pays a competitive annual salary of $130,000 - $160,000 based on level of experience, with the opportunity for annual performance-based bonuses.
