Senior Software Engineer
About the role
As our Senior Engineer, you will build, manage, and enhance shopper payments systems and compliance services powered by geospatial foundation capabilities. You will work on a team of 5-6 engineers to design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain application code using Golang, Python, Redis, Postgres, and Kafka in a microservices architecture. You will collaborate with product and operations teams to solve challenges in market clearance, supply chain, pricing platform, and new ventures.
This is a hybrid role based in one of our three office hubs: Birmingham, AL; Minneapolis, MN; or San Francisco, CA. You must be located near one of these to designate as your home office.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and maintain backend REST API services with a focus on performance and latency.
- Work with SQL databases (Postgres preferred) to build efficient, scalable, and maintainable architecture.
- Diagnose and solve complex technical problems and performance bottlenecks using data.
- Take ownership of production services, ensuring reliability and performance, and participate in on-call production support rotation.
- Collaborate with engineers, product managers, and partner teams to deliver impactful solutions.
- Integrate LLM APIs (OpenAI, Anthropic, Gemini) into applications and design tools for secure interaction with backend services.
- Optimize backend systems for latency, performance, and scalability.
- Mentor and help others grow while fostering a self-driven, outcome-oriented culture.
Requirements
- 5+ years of software development experience with a programming language like Golang (preferred), Python, Java, or C/C++.
- Experience designing, developing, testing, deploying, and maintaining backend REST API services.
- Comfort working with SQL databases (Postgres preferred).
- Experience diagnosing and solving complex technical problems and performance bottlenecks.
- Willingness to participate in on-call production support rotation.
- Strong collaboration skills with engineers, product managers, and partner teams.
- Self-driven and outcome-oriented mindset.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience designing and maintaining systems that integrate with third-party services.

Nice-to-Have Skills
- Geo-spatial experience or foundation platform building experience.
- Familiarity with orchestration concepts (Google’s ADK, Vercel AI SDK, or custom orchestration).
- Database literacy: Comfortable writing SQL queries and interacting with relational databases.
- Experience with Git version control, CI/CD basics, and writing unit tests.

Work Arrangement
This is a hybrid role with the following in-office expectations:
- Birmingham, AL: At least 2 days per week, with core in-office days on Wednesdays and Thursdays.
- Minneapolis, MN: At least 1 day per week on either Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday.
- San Francisco, CA: At least 1 day per week between Monday and Thursday.
Pay
Pay Range: $95,800 - $170,000. Individual total compensation will vary based on qualifications, skill level, competencies, and work location.
