Senior Software Engineer

About the role

This integral member of an agile software engineering team will build scalable software applications across all digital channels to serve customers. The role takes an enterprise-wide, architectural view of solutions and executes products primarily using C# within the .NET framework on the Azure platform. Responsibilities span the full software application build process—from idea generation, business analysis, and technical design to development using modern technologies and design patterns.

Responsibilities

• Design and create engineering specifications for software applications and programs.
• Design and write code that adheres to coding standards; perform code reviews.
• Generate ideas and implement technical solutions to achieve required product features while monitoring technical progress against the project plan and safeguarding functionality, scalability, and performance.
• Participate in all scrum ceremonies, assist in sprint planning, and complete required sprints from development through final execution of software applications/programs.
• Communicate issues or blockers to the Scrum Master in a timely manner.
• Drive story creation (Definition of Done, Acceptance Criteria, estimation), create tasks in applicable software (e.g., RTC or Jira), and update status and assignment accordingly.
• Monitor work against the production schedule, provide progress updates, and report issues or technical difficulties to lead developers regularly.
• Mentor associate and intermediate software engineers as needed.

Education

• Required: Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a closely related field.
• Preferred: Master’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or a related field.

Experience

• Required:
  • 5 years proficiency in design and analysis of algorithms, data structures, and design patterns in building and deploying scalable, highly available systems.
  • 5 years in at least one modern programming language (Java, Python, JavaScript, ACE, IIB/ITX, Informatica preferred).
  • Experience with at least two of the following: React, Angular v4+, NodeJS, NoSQL databases, HTML5, CSS, Google Cloud Platform, or Amazon Web Services.
  • 5 years understanding of web services technologies such as REST, HTTPS, JSON.
  • 5 years with one or more general-purpose programming languages including but not limited to Java, Python (Django/Flask), C/C++, C#, Objective C, JavaScript, or Go.
  • 5 years defining system architectures and exploring technical feasibility trade-offs for optimizing short-term execution while planning for long-term technical capabilities.
• Preferred:
  • 7 years working with a variety of technology systems, designing solutions or developing applications in healthcare.
  • 5 years translating design mockups, prototypes, and user stories into working applications.
  • 5 years producing code that is fault-tolerant, efficient, and maintainable.
  • 1 year working with Machine Learning, especially in Natural Language Understanding, Machine Translation, Deep Neural Networks, and related fields.

Skills

• Demonstrated ability to achieve stretch goals in a highly innovative and fast-paced environment.
• Experience working with agile methodology of scrum.
• Interest and ability to learn other programming languages as needed.
• Knowledge of professional software engineering practices and best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, unit testing, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations.
• Strong track record in designing and implementing large-scale consumer-facing applications.
• Strong sense of ownership, urgency, and drive.
• Demonstrated passion for user experience and improving usability.
• Experience and willingness to mentor junior engineers and help develop their skills and leadership.

Pay

Base pay range: $102,700 – $164,600. Base pay is determined by qualifications, experience, expected contributions, internal peer equity, market, and business considerations. The displayed range does not reflect any geographic differential that may apply.
