Senior Software Engineer
About the role
The Senior Software Engineer supports delivery by building and enhancing enterprise application components, integrations, and data structures using an AI-first engineering approach—where automation and AI-enabled workflows are treated as default solution patterns when appropriate. This role sits within IT, aligned to HCM Portfolio Leadership, and supports forward-deployed engineering (FDE) delivery teams, contributing to both initial builds and ongoing sustainment under the guidance of senior engineers.
Responsibilities
- Build and enhance full stack application components across front-end, back-end, and integration layers, under the guidance of senior engineers supporting enterprise solution delivery, including initial releases and iterative enhancements.
- Contribute to solutions using an AI-first mindset, incorporating AI-enabled workflows and automation where appropriate and supportable within IT standards.
- Develop and support API-based integrations and batch/mass data processing workflows under established architectural patterns.
- Assist with data modeling, database design, and data structuring to support scalable and maintainable solutions.
- Collaborate with senior engineers, business stakeholders, and IT delivery partners in a cross-functional, FDE model to move solutions from concept to production.
- Support testing, deployment, and post-release sustainment activities, including defect resolution and minor enhancements.
- Follow enterprise standards and controls (e.g., security, access, change/release, testing), including additional controls for systems subject to ITGC/SOX where applicable.
- Learn and apply enterprise platforms and emerging AI-enabled capabilities aligned to the broader application ecosystem.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or a related field.
- 4 + years of experience in software engineering or application development roles.
- Hands-on experience developing or contributing to full stack applications, including back-end services (e.g., Python) and modern JavaScript frameworks (e.g., React.js, Next.js, TypeScript).
- Experience building or consuming APIs and supporting system integrations.
- Foundational understanding of databases and data structures.
- Experience using source control tools such as GitHub.
- Exposure to SDLC practices, including development, testing, deployment, and sustainment.
- Interest in learning and applying AI-enabled workflows and automation in real-world enterprise solutions.
- Ability to work within cross-functional delivery teams and take direction from senior engineering leads.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills and willingness to learn the HR business domain supported by the applications.
Qualifications
- Familiarity with HR or workforce platforms such as Workday or related staffing, finance, or resource management systems.
- Exposure to cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure.
- Experience with CI/CD tools (e.g., GitHub Actions, Azure Pipelines).
- Experience working in iterative, pod-based delivery models with reusable patterns and enterprise controls.
- Demonstrated curiosity, coachability, and desire to grow technical depth over time.
