About the role
This role is part of Current's Engineering team, which supports the company's mission to transform financial access for everyday Americans. The team builds products and infrastructure that run on Google Cloud Kubernetes Engine, handling millions of transactions daily with a proprietary banking core. The stack includes MongoDB and Spanner for persistence, Pub/Sub for asynchronous event processing, Dataflow for data transformation, and Google Cloud Storage and BigQuery for data storage and analytics. The backend services are written in Java, and data pipelines are built in Scala.
Responsibilities
- Owning the end-to-end delivery of key business initiatives from product discovery to system design and feature launch
- Architecting and evolving core distributed services for reliability, scalability, and performance
- Designing and delivering large-scale data-intensive applications with cutting-edge techniques in real-time transaction decisioning, stream-processing, and machine learning
- Evolving org-wide engineering standards for architecture, testing, and monitoring practices and documentation
- Mentoring engineers through code and architecture reviews, raising the technical bar of the team
- Partnering with product, data, and business stakeholders to shape technical direction and product roadmap
Requirements
- 5+ years of software engineering experience, with backend experience using a JVM language, preferably Java
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- Solid understanding of algorithms, data structures, object-oriented design, and multi-threaded programming
- Experience with cloud-hosted services, such as AWS or GCP
- Proficiency in both RDBMS and NoSQL databases
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills

Pay
The salary range for this position is $170,000 - $250,000.
Schedule
Full-time, Monday through Friday.
