Position Summary
We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer with a strong background utilizing software engineering principles to design, develop, integrate, and verify high performance flight software to meet technical requirements. Flexibility will be key as the role and responsibilities could evolve as program moves through various lifecycle phases.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
- Architect, design, implement, test, and document software solutions from high-level requirements specifications.
- Perform full lifecycle of software development from design through implementation and deployment.
- Mentor a team of software engineers and provide guidance during technical discussions and architecture development.
- Promote best practices in software engineering such as test-driven development, up-front design, code review and unit testing.
- Create and maintain technical design documentation, data models, and process models.
- Conduct system analysis, troubleshooting, diagnosis, and problem resolution.
- Collaborate with stakeholders across project and NASA to ensure successful delivery of flight software.
- Lead and conduct program design and safety reviews with internal Axiom development teams and NASA customers for commercial spacesuit development.
- Assess opportunities and risks, providing data-driven recommendations for strategic technical direction.
- Support project management efforts.
- Communicate project progress, status, and potential issues to stakeholders and leadership.
- Implement and maintain agile project management methodologies throughout the project lifecycle.
- Perform additional job duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Education & Experience: Bachelor’s or Master’s in Engineering - Software, Computer Science, Aerospace or related discipline. A minimum of 13 years of experience in NASA/DoD (NASA preferred) flight software development.
- Experience: Larger than 5 people. Unit testing, software-hardware integration testing, and formal verification activities for flight software certification. Software safety reviews. Track record of delivering outcomes in ambiguous, fast-moving environments.

- Technical Expertise: Programming languages like C along with strong foundations in data structures, algorithms, and application performance optimization. NASA’s Core Flight Software (cFS). Linux on embedded systems preferably system on a chip including kernel and driver development. High speed communication links like Ethernet, PCIe. UML, SysML modeling tools, version control systems (Git, GitLab).
- Skills: Leading teams through the entire software development lifecycle. Strong understanding of software verification, validation, and documentation practices. Code debugging, troubleshooting, and applying security best practices within Agile methodology. Experience presenting complex topics to management and other stakeholders. Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
