About the role
We are seeking a Senior Software Automation Testing Engineer to join our team and support our client in Ashburn, VA. The ideal candidate will bring strong expertise in end-to-end software testing, automation framework development, and Python-based engineering to help improve application reliability and delivery quality. This role is well suited for a technically driven professional who can build internal tools, strengthen automated testing capabilities, and work across teams to deliver scalable, efficient testing solutions in an Agile environment.
Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and maintain robust, scalable, and secure Python-based applications that support testing and automation objectives.
- Partner with UI, services, API, and systems engineering teams to translate business needs into practical technical solutions.
- Build internal automation tools and workflows that improve team collaboration, streamline repetitive tasks, and support defect identification.
- Take ownership of the automated testing codebase and support its ongoing enhancement and maintenance.
- Develop automation test scripts and execute regression, functional, and system testing activities.
- Validate results and prepare test summaries, defect reports, and supporting documentation.
- Generate test data and perform data validation to support comprehensive testing efforts.
- Test data interface messaging using JSON and XML message structures.
- Develop SQL and Unix-based scripts to support test data preparation and test harness automation.
Requirements
- Five (5) or more years of relevant experience in software testing, automation engineering, or related technical work.
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or a related field; equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
- Strong understanding of modern Python 3.8+ programming.
- Experience with Python web frameworks such as FastAPI, Django, or Flask.
- Strong background in software testing, including testing REST APIs and end-to-end workflows.
- Experience working in AWS cloud environments.
- Demonstrated ability and interest in automating repetitive tasks and improving engineering efficiency.
- Familiarity with Python testing frameworks such as pytest or unittest.
- Familiarity with automation tools such as Locust.
- Knowledge of version control systems and CI/CD tools such as GitLab, Harness, or Jenkins.
- Experience with Oracle or PostgreSQL databases and strong SQL skills.
- Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and collaboration skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to document findings, explain defects, and collaborate across technical teams.
- Ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders across varying technical skill levels.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Public Trust position and favorable suitability determination based on a CBP background investigation.

Schedule
This is a hybrid position based in Ashburn, VA, with onsite support expected one to two days per week and additional onsite presence as required by mission needs. Flexible in working extended hours.
