Senior Skilled Maintenance Technician
About the role
The Support Services department is looking for a Senior Skilled Maintenance Technician to perform a variety of advanced journey-level skills, maintenance, construction and repair duties in support of the City Facilities Maintenance Division and provide technical assistance to supervisory staff.
You will collaborate with supervisors to exercise leadership over the heating, ventilation, air conditioning and refrigeration work group and perform the full range of skilled maintenance and technical duties in support of the Facilities Maintenance Division; including design, construction and installation, alteration, maintenance and repair of buildings, structures, devices and systems.
Responsibilities
- Provide assistance to supervisory staff, serving as technical advisor as needed and lead work efforts of other maintenance technicians, contracted staff, and temporary personnel.
- Complete assigned work and tasks requiring skilled maintenance methods and techniques.
- Read and interpret plans and drawings; assess projects in the field; design and layout projects.
- Properly and efficiently complete tasks using hand and power tools and shop equipment.
- Estimate time, materials, and equipment required for jobs; requisition materials as required.
- Perform field inspections to ensure work quality and adherence to City policies and approved work plans and designs; maintain operation records; file reports as needed.
- Respond to public inquiries in a courteous manner; provide information of assignment and explain City policies and procedures to the public.
- May be required to remain for emergency or disaster situations in addition to fulfilling recurring on-call standby duties.
- Review completed work for accuracy, proper work methods, techniques, and compliance with applicable standards including specifications such as safe work practices and workplace safety.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED.
- Five years of full-time, professional experience in facilities maintenance; specifically, HVAC/R (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration).
Preferred Qualifications
- Possess a current, valid CFC Certification (Chlorofluorocarbon Certification).
- Possess a current, valid Heating Mechanic IV License (MECH IV).
- Certification(s) or formal training in multiple areas of facilities maintenance.
- Five-plus years HVAC/R maintenance and troubleshooting experience.
- Facilities maintenance crew-lead experience.
Skills
- Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration (HVAC/R) principles with use of analytical judgement and decision-making appropriate to organization’s work environment.
- Advanced Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning troubleshooting maintenance principles.
- Maintenance methods and techniques.
- Equipment, materials, chemicals and supplies used in facilities maintenance.
- Pertinent federal, state and local laws, codes and regulations.

Pay
$31.11 - $37.35 Hourly
Schedule
In this position, you will be required to be placed in an on-call status rotation and/or may work overtime, at times, to assist with emergencies/disaster situations. This position is subject to budget required furloughs to be implemented in the 2026 calendar year.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Five years of full-time, professional experience in facilities maintenance; specifically, HVAC/R (Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration).
